Job summary

The Port of South Louisiana is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Technician to perform routine maintenance and repair work supporting the safe operation and upkeep of Port facilities, grounds, vehicles, and equipment. The role requires practical repair skills, safe operation of tools, dependability, and attention to detail.

One year of experience or six semester hours in related trades, with the official qualifications defined by the State Civil Service.

Qualifications

1 year of experience or training in the building trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance.
Six semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.

Responsibilities

Perform minor repairs to buildings and fixtures, including plumbing, carpentry, welding, electrical, mechanical, and painting; operate hand tools and power equipment; assemble and maintain furniture and new equipment.
Repair and maintain lawn care equipment and perform routine minor vehicle maintenance (e.g., tire repair, replacing wiper blades, air filters).
Perform grounds maintenance and general facility upkeep, including mowing with a zero-turn mower, shoveling, and keeping Port grounds clean and presentable.
Operate equipment such as tractors with bush hog, spread box blade, forklift, and backhoe with loader bucket and digging bucket.
Operate office equipment as needed to support departmental functions; perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
