Job summary

The Florida Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Maintenance Worker to support the Veterans Nursing Home in Saint Augustine, FL. The incumbent will work under the Utilities and Maintenance Superintendent, performing routine repairs, maintaining environmental controls, and assisting with energy use reporting.

Must have at least 1 year in building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical work, plus ability to work a flexible schedule.

Qualifications

• Recent experience of at least one year in maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (reading, writing, speaking).
• Ability to bend, crouch, and work around loud noises and electrical equipment.
• Experience with plumbing, HVAC, and electrical equipment.
• Able to work a flexible schedule Monday–Friday, weekends and holidays.
• Pass background check and drug test.
• Experience in long-term care or hospital with geriatric population.

Responsibilities

• Work under the supervision of the Utilities and Maintenance Superintendent.
• Assist in repair and maintenance of the Veterans Nursing Home and ensure controls are operational.
• Assist with energy consumption reporting and energy conservation programs.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance to keep systems and buildings in good condition.
• Provide routine repair services and maintain safe and clean work areas.
• Follow preventive maintenance plan and communicate with staff, residents, and vendors.
• Complete tasks timely and document outcomes; attend in-service training as scheduled.
