Job summary

The Florida Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking an OPS Maintenance Mechanic in Saint Augustine, FL to support the Veterans Nursing Home under the Utilities and Maintenance Superintendent. The role focuses on maintaining and repairing building systems, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical equipment to keep facilities safe and compliant.

The incumbent will perform routine preventive maintenance, document outcomes, and coordinate with staff and vendors while adhering to energy conservation programs

Qualifications

• At least 1 year in maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.
• Experience with plumbing, HVAC, and electrical equipment.
• Flexible schedule Monday–Friday, weekends and holidays.
• Successful completion of Level II background check and drug test.
• Experience in a long-term care or hospital environment with geriatric population.

Responsibilities

• Assist with repair and maintenance of the Veterans Nursing Home under supervision.
• Ensure environmental controls and equipment are operational and maintained.
• Assist with energy consumption reporting and energy conservation programs.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance for machines and building systems.
• Provide routine repair services and address defects; assist in equipment installation.
• Follow the preventive maintenance plan and document outcomes.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized manner.
• Support a safe environment and be willing to learn new procedures.
