What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: Responsible for performing all aspects of complete designs for small and large mechanical engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods, under general supervision in Shreveport, LA.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Utilizing department design and drafting standards.
  • Understanding project scope, specifications, and design criteria.
  • Providing on-site assistance during startup.
  • Performing stress analysis, construction specifications, material procurement specifications, calculations, and piping estimates.
  • Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine efficient engineering solutions.
  • Producing preliminary designs and material take-offs for estimates.
  • Creating detailed design calculations and sketches for construction materials, organized for review and use by drafters/designers.
  • Assisting drafting team with layout and detailing issues.
  • Consulting with other discipline design leaders for smooth project flow.
  • Reviewing vendor and discipline drawings for mechanical input.
  • Designing with efficient use of materials, ease of construction, and client expectations in mind.
  • Checking calculations for accuracy and conformance to codes and standards.
  • Advising senior engineers on design or scope changes.
  • Supporting procurement by developing scopes, drawings, and specifications into packages.
  • Developing construction specifications.
  • Reviewing fabrication drawings and submittals for compliance.
  • Gathering field data, checking tie-ins, and providing construction support.
  • Providing technical guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Applying advanced engineering techniques to complex designs.
  • Developing small work sharing packages for interoffice support.
Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.

Registration: Professional Engineering registration preferred.

Experience: 5+ years of relevant industrial mechanical engineering experience.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of design standards and codes.
  • Experience with piping materials and specifications.
  • Ability to develop piping procurement specifications.
  • Understanding of piping system sizing and design practices.
  • Experience with stress analysis of piping systems.
  • Knowledge of safety valves, steam traps, and liquid drainers.
  • Estimating and development of project quantities.
  • Coordination with other disciplines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods.
