Job summary

Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center is seeking a part-time Maintenance Person to care for and maintain facilities year-round. Expect about 28 hours per week with shifts that include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Applicants must be 18+ due to ice rink equipment, and Pennsylvania driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities include opening/closing facilities, event setups, routine repairs, ice rink and pool upkeep, and general custodial duties. Training provided for specialized operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of facilities maintenance experience preferred (ice rink, pool, or similar facilities).
• Pa. Pesticide Technician license desired (additional compensation with certification).

• Assists in start up, seasonal operation, general operation, and closing of all facilities.
• Assists in special event set-ups.
• Performs daily building repairs and maintenance.
• Ice rink maintenance (cutting and edging).
• Swimming pool maintenance.
• Assists with repairs of machinery and equipment as needed.
• Assists with special projects.
• Maintains high level of cleanliness and repair of all facilities.
• Custodial work.
• Performs all other work as assigned.

RECREATION CENTER MAINTENANCE PERSON (PART-TIME)

REPORTS TO: RECREATION CENTER BUILDING SUPERINTENDENT/ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT

NATURE OF WORK

This is a year-round, part-time position responsible for the care and maintenance of recreation facilities. Average hours are 28 per week. Shifts vary and include days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, due to operation of ice rink equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Assists in start up, seasonal operation, general operation, and closing of all facilities
• Assists in special event set-ups

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• Knowledge of indoor skating rink operation and related machinery (training provided).
• Knowledge of general building maintenance and repairs.
• Knowledge of basic tools.
• Knowledge of swimming operation (training provided).
• Knowledge of basic cleaning chemicals used in facilities.
• Interpersonal skills.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma/G.E.D.
• One year of experience in facilities maintenance preferred. (Experience in ice rink, swimming pool, or similar facilities preferred--training provided).
• Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s license is required at time of appointment and must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
• Pa. Pesticide Technician License desired (employee receives additional compensation with certification)

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb; use hands to handle, or feel equipment and supplies.
• The employee is required to operate office equipment.
• The employee will need to be able to regularly stand for long periods of time.
• The employee must regularly lift and move objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift objects up to 75 pounds.
• Requires normal range of hearing, eyesight and verbal communications to supervise, record, prepare and communicate appropriate activities.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and outdoors and must be able to function and tolerate various environmental conditions including rain, heat, humidity and cold.
• The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment and will work with toxic, caustic or otherwise harmful chemicals such as degreasers, cleaners, solvents, diatomaceous earth, acids and chlorine.
