Position Summary : The Maintenance Planner is responsible for maintenance and engineering support functions and managing plant improvement projects. This includes planning and executing overhaul projects, overseeing vendors and contractors, and serving as the subject matter expert for plant maintenance computer programs and CMMS (Maximo). The Maintenance Planner may manage maintenance personnel in the absence of the Maintenance Manager, provide technical support for plant and process improvements, and coordinate with corporate engineering. Additionally, the Maintenance Planner handles service contract purchasing, including RFPs and contract issuance. The role's time will be allocated to purchasing, pre-outage planning, daily work order planning, outage contract supervision, and post-outage feedback.
Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities :
- Perform and evaluate plant-specific functions related to predictive and preventive maintenance, availability improvements, and production costs :
- A. Coordinate and conduct performance, functional, and surveillance testing of plant systems and components. Compare data with standards and interpret for wear, malfunction, and repair needs. Aim to improve equipment performance continually.
- B. Use tools and analysis techniques to identify developing equipment issues that could cause future outages.
- C. Assist in developing preventive and scheduled maintenance activities.
- D. Plan outages across disciplines: mechanical, instrumentation, electrical, and long-term planning.
- E. Evaluate equipment failures and assist with Root Cause Analysis to prevent recurrence.
- F. Work closely with the Operations Manager to track facility service hours, starts, and other parameters, updating maintenance schedules and expense projections accordingly.
In the absence of the Maintenance Manager, direct maintenance personnel to ensure plant efficiency and safety standards are met, and work orders are completed in the CMMS.Assist in developing annual maintenance budgets.Manage the site CMMS (Maximo): schedule work, prioritize work orders, maintain inventory, and procure parts.Provide coaching, training, and development for the maintenance team to ensure skill maintenance and personnel qualification.Assist in investigating plant problems, incidents, and accidents, providing analyses and follow-up plans.Conduct inspections of plant equipment during outages as assigned.Provide technical support for specifications, bid evaluations, and contractor oversight during outages, ensuring QA/QC compliance.Coordinate with corporate engineering, external maintenance and engineering firms, manufacturers, and vendors to discuss modifications, resolve problems, and exchange information.Manage RFPs, evaluate bids, and assist in contract awards following policies and procedures.Assist in inventory and warehouse management, ensuring proper reordering of supplies.Maintain and update work packages, databases, and equipment reports.Additional Requirements
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Occasional overnight travel required.
- Must be physically capable of traversing plant facilities and stairways.
- Ability to work in an office environment, operating a computer and office equipment.
- Experience with Maximo and PeopleSoft at an advanced user level.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Experience with Microsoft macro templates and technical writing.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Education / Experience Required :
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
- 10+ years of power plant or similar experience required.
- At least 5 years supervising technical, supervisory, and administrative personnel preferred.
- Strong leadership and motivational skills required.
