Kelly Engineering is seeking a Mechanical / Maintenance Planner to join one of our leading clients in the Chemical Manufacturing industry located at their Orange, TX plant.

Position Summary

• Seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical / Maintenance Planner to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective maintenance execution at its Orange, Texas site. The Mechanical Planner will develop complete, high-quality work packages for mechanical maintenance activities, ensuring that work is properly scoped, resourced, scheduled, and ready for execution.
• This role works closely with maintenance supervisors, craftspeople, operations, reliability engineering, procurement, contractors, and other site functions to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and strengthen maintenance execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan mechanical maintenance work for routine, corrective, preventive, and turnaround activities.
• Review work requests and field conditions to define job scope, labor requirements, materials, tools, equipment, permits, and safety needs.
• Develop detailed work packages, including:
• Clear job steps and craft instructions
• Labor estimates and crew requirements
• Required tools, equipment, and specialty services
• Material and spare-parts requirements
• Drawings, specifications, procedures, and supporting documentation
• Safety, environmental, and permitting considerations
• Visit the field to verify equipment condition, access, job requirements, and potential hazards.
• Coordinate with the warehouse and procurement teams to confirm material availability and identify long-lead items.
• Ensure work packages are complete and ready for scheduling before maintenance execution.
• Estimate job duration and support the development of realistic maintenance schedules.
• Identify opportunities to bundle work, improve job efficiency, and minimize equipment downtime.
• Coordinate with operations to establish equipment availability and isolation requirements.
• Support the planning of contractor work, including scope definition, work packages, estimates, and required site resources.
• Maintain accurate work-order information in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Review completed work orders and incorporate lessons learned into future job plans.
• Support maintenance performance improvements by monitoring schedule compliance, backlog quality, labor utilization, and planning effectiveness.
• Participate in root-cause analysis, reliability initiatives, shutdown planning, and continuous-improvement activities as needed.
• Promote and comply with safety, environmental, quality, and operational standards.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five or more years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in a chemical, petrochemical, manufacturing, or comparable process-industry environment.
• Hands-on mechanical maintenance experience involving equipment such as pumps, compressors, valves, piping, exchangers, conveyors, tanks, and rotating equipment.
• Demonstrated experience planning and preparing mechanical maintenance work packages.
• Working knowledge of maintenance planning, scheduling, work management, and backlog control.
• Experience using a CMMS, such as SAP PM, Maximo, or a comparable system.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, P&IDs, procedures, and technical specifications.
• Strong understanding of industrial safety practices, including lockout/tagout, confined-space entry, hot work, line breaking, and permitting requirements.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively with maintenance, operations, engineering, procurement, warehouse, and contractor personnel.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a chemical manufacturing or other highly regulated process environment.
• Experience supporting plant turnarounds, outages, or major maintenance projects.
• Experience estimating labor hours, materials, equipment, and contractor costs.
• Familiarity with reliability-centered maintenance, preventive-maintenance optimization, and mechanical integrity programs.
• Mechanical trade experience or a recognized maintenance-planning certification.
• Experience with SAP or another enterprise asset-management system.
