Job summary

Flatbush Development Corporation in Brooklyn seeks a Maintenance Personnel to care for the Cornerstone center, handle repairs, cleaning, and upkeep.

Shifts at Kingsborough Community Center (129 Kingsborough 1st Walk, Brooklyn, NY 11233) 11:00 AM–1:00 PM and Glenwood Community Center (5816 Farragut Road, Brooklyn, NY 11234) 6:00 PM–9:00 PM. Pay rate is $25.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Candidates must be very responsible, organized & demonstrate positive communication skills.
• The ideal candidate is personable, energetic, & enthusiastic.
• Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with all staff and participants while always remaining professional.

Responsibilities

• Receives repair and maintenance requests from the Program Director and responds promptly.
• Performs work according to standard procedures and the center's schedule.
• Cleans rooms, hallways, restrooms, supply rooms, offices, stairways, windows and outside grounds as needed.
• Sweeps, mops, strips and waxes floors with appropriate equipment.
• Uses vacuum cleaners to clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture and blinds.
• Dusts furniture and equipment.
• Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors and sills.
• Performs minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairs.
• Performs touch up and finishes painting.
• Empties wastebaskets.
• Replenishes restroom supplies and cleans restrooms.
• Replaces light bulbs.
• Sets up/breaks down chairs, tables and equipment in meeting rooms.
• Follows all safety rules and procedures.
• Reports work accomplished to the PD or AD.
• Maintains supply inventory and communicates needs to PD or AD.
• Keeps organized closet and storage spaces.
• Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Maintenance Personnel reports directly to the Cornerstone Program Director and will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and cleanliness of the Cornerstone center.

Work Hours and Shifts- 25 Hours

Kingsborough Community Center

6:00 PM- 9:00 PM

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Receives verbal or written repair and maintenance requests from the Program Director or Assistant Program Director and responds in a timely manner.
• Performs work according to standard procedure and by the center's operational schedule.
• Clean rooms, hallways, restrooms, supply rooms, offices, stairways, windows and outside grounds as needed.
• Uses brooms, mops, and floor equipment to sweep, mop, strip and wax floors.
• Uses vacuum cleaners to clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture and blinds.

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed oral or written instructions.
• Ability to relate to officials, staff and public in a courteous manner.
• Ability to work occasionally in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
