Position Title: Maintenance Person (Custodial Focus)
Schedule: Mon-Wed: day shift (typically 7:30a - 4:00p) Fri-Sat: night shift
First Line Report: Operations Supervisor
Second Line Report: Operations Manager
Pay Grade Level: Hourly
Employee Status: Full-time
Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt
Compensation: AFSCME Contract Entry $18.82/hour Step1 21.05/hour
The Maintenance Person (Custodial Focus), under the general direction of the Operations Supervisor is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks within the MetroParks. It is the responsibility of the Maintenance Person (Custodial Focus) to complete all assigned duties, tasks, instructions, and/or work orders in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. Typical duties include but are not limited to a variety of custodial and maintenance activities associated with the trades of electrical work, landscaping, janitorial, snow removal, pest management, and equipment repair work. This position is suitable for transitional duty.
Primary Responsibilities
- General Maintenance and Repair: 80%
- Performs janitorial services, including cleaning of public restrooms/pit toilets, pavilions, cabins, buildings, and other facilities
- Complete litter pick-up at facilities, picnic areas, and roadsides
- inspect assigned facilities for any need repairs or malfunctions
- Perform general lawn and and landscape maintenance and upkeep (mowing, blowing, weed whipping, etc.)
- Assists with minor electrical work, troubleshooting, and repair
- Assists with minor plumbing work and repair
- Performs snow and ice removal in winter months from restrooms and rentals
- Equipment Operation: 10%
- Operates project specific vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to; dump trucks, park vehicles, power tools, hand tools, survey and measuring equipment
- Observes safe work methods and uses proper safety equipment
- Cleans, maintains, and inspects equipment
- Departmental Functions: 10%
- Assist with MetroParks events as determined by the Operations Supervisor or Manager
- Provides intra-department support as determined by the Operations Supervisor or Manager
- Communicate effectively and professionally with coworkers, visitors, renters, and vendors
Essential Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
- Must be able to effectively and professionally communicate
- Ability to follow directions and complete tasks with little to no supervision
- Must be able to maintain a continuous positive attitude and professional appearance
- Knowledge of current industry trends in the field of maintenance including various individual trades best management practices and techniques
- Ability to operate various types of maintenance tools, equipment, and vehicles
- Ability to multi-task and complete assignments in an efficient and timely manner
- Ability to read and interpret plans, details, specifications, and operating manuals
- Knowledge of MetroParks rules and regulations, policies and procedures, as well as labor union agreements
- Must possess proficient technological skills and abilities in the operation of standard computer software, including but not limited to Microsoft Office products, e-mail, internet, smart phone capabilities, and time tracking software
Education/Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must be able to respond to emergency call-outs as necessary
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of one (1) year of custodial or general maintenance experience
Physical Requirements Necessary to Perform Job Functions
- Must be physically able to perform all tasks inherent to the position
- Ability to operate construction vehicles such as dump trucks
- Ability to work from different degrees of height using ladders, scaffolding, etc.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Able to lift 50+ pounds
- Must be able to use both hands to work with all necessary tools and equipment
- Able to bend and twist easily from the waist
- Ability to reach above head with both arms
- Have excellent eye sight
- Have physical and mental endurance to work long hours when necessary
- Ability to walk, traverse, or otherwise access trails of all types, natural terrain, construction sites, and all properties under control of the MetroParks under all types of conditions
