Job summary

Commercial Metals Company is seeking a Maintenance Technician at the Fontana Recycling Plant. The role involves repairing and maintaining heavy equipment, diagnosing malfunctions, and performing preventive maintenance to keep machinery running smoothly.

You will work a 1:00 PM–10:30 PM shift Monday–Friday with Saturday mornings, plus potential overtime. Candidates should have 1–3 years in manufacturing maintenance, strong hydraulics/welding skills, and a safety-first mindset.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in extreme conditions (temperature, chemicals, dust, fumes).
• Valid driver’s license with safe driving record.
• Heavy equipment maintenance experience with hydraulics.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team and identify root causes of equipment failures.

Responsibilities

• Perform minor repairs and routine tasks efficiently, safely.
• Diagnose malfunctions on equipment and perform repairs.
• Maintain equipment by following service instructions and performing preventive maintenance.
• Keep accurate records of work performed and materials used.
• Perform welding, grinding, and simple machining as needed.
• Work with hydraulic and electrical equipment as assigned.
• Ensure safety policies and procedures are followed.

Location: Fontana Recycling Plant (Scrap Yard)

• Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 1:00 PM - 10:30 PM & Saturday's 6 am- 12pm (Overtime work as needed)
• Pay Range: $24.00- $35.00/Hour (depending on experience)
• Shift Differential Pay: + $3.00/hour

What You'll Do

• Must be able to perform minor repairs and routine tasks efficiently, correctly, and safely
• Diagnose malfunctions on equipment and perform repairs
• Keep equipment operating by following service instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventative maintenance
• Maintains specified records of work performed, details of repairs, and material usage
• Perform basic welding and grinding or simple burning and machining operations as required to adjust or repairs
• Perform equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, equipment repairs and troubleshooting equipment problems in an accurate and efficient manner
• Perform minor/routine maintenance or repairs as needed to equipment without the assistance of maintenance personnel
• Perform repairs on Hydraulic and electrical equipment as assigned
• Prepares and maintains accurate records of services and repairs
• Ability to work with exposure to extremes in temperature, chemical, dust fumes and mists, uneven surfaces, loud noise, elevated work areas, and confined spaces
• Ability to work around moving objects , vehicles, and machinery all with moving parts
• Participate in the CMC Safety Programs and proactively uphold the CMC Safety Culture
• Maintain work area and equipment in clean orderly condition and follow all safety policies and procedures
• Modify, repair and install all types of machinery and mechanical equipment while observing all applicable CMC Safety Policies and Procedures
• Any other tasks as assigned by supervisor

What You'll Need

• 1-3 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in environments with extreme temperatures, chemicals, dust, fumes, loud noise, uneven surfaces, elevated areas, and confined spaces
• Valid drivers license with safety-conscious driving record
• Heavy equipment maintenance experience- with an emphasis with fluid hydraulics
• Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment, with a strong work ethic and attention to detail to find root cause for equipment failures
• Ability to work overtime as necessary outside of normally scheduled shift with little or no advance notification
• Capable of performing a wide range of physical activities which include pulling, reaching, bending, climbing and kneeling
• Experience with hydraulics/pneumatics, wiring, and working on heavy equipment
• Proficient in reading and understand technical documents, diagrams, and service manuals
• Welding, cutting, and fabrication skills
• Experience with MIG and stick welding
• Ability to communicate with business leaders and employees
• Effectively communicate with others about possible production issues, concerns, and needs
• Ability to interact with co-workers and customers in a positive manner

• High School Diploma or GED required
