The incumbent serves as the working supervisor of one of the Building Maintenance Units of the Maintenance Section of Facilities Management Service at North Las Vegas VA Medical Center.
Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The physical demands of the position are those normally associated with maintenance and repair operations including extensive physical efforts such as lifting - pulling and pushing heavy objects - walking - standing - stooping - bending - reaching and climbing stairways and ladders. The incumbent may be required to enter confined spaces - work from ladders and scaffolding. The use and control of powered equipment is required while instructing subordinates. The incumbent will occasionally lift and carry tools - equipment - and parts that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds) and - less often - up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds}. Occasionally - they lift or move with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 18 kilograms. The work requires close contact with a variety of different equipment including fans - pressure vessels - electrical panels and devices - pumps - etc. all of which are potentially hazardous. Hazards include contact bums - exposure to steam and freezing liquids - noise - vibration1 high voltage electricity - rotating parts - etc. Protective clothing and personnel protective equipment Including gloves - safety shoes - masks - etc. are required in the accomplishment of some aspects of the work. There is the potential for exposure to hazardous chemicals and electrical shock. Work hours may include nights - evenings and/or weekends. The work is performed both inside and outside. The incumbent is sometimes required to supervise or participate in repairs - maintenance and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy - dirty - dusty - and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 9 meters (30 feet) or more; and in close quarters such as manholes - attics - or tunnels. He/she is occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling - electrical shock - burns - etc. - and is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises. • Reviews and analyzes work accomplishments - cost - and utilization of subordinates to evaluate work progress - control costs - and anticipates and avoids possible problems by recommending corrective action to superiors
• Participates with management officials and/or engineering personnel to develop qualitative and/or quantitative work standards
• Evaluates work operations and reviews completed work and inspection reports to ensure that standards are met
