Job summary

Fulton County Schools is seeking a skilled locksmith to support school facilities in Atlanta. You will set key schedules, manage master key systems, and install or replace hardware to improve operations and security.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a Georgia driver’s license, and 3 years of locksmith experience (5 preferred). Certification training is a plus, and incumbents must be insurable by district carriers.

Responsibilities

• Set key schedules for facilities per master key system and manufacturer manuals.
• Replace or install equipment to improve operations and security.
• Use hand/power tools, key-cutting machines, grinders, and diagnostic gear.
• Improvise fixes to keep equipment working while maintaining safety.
• Coordinate with manufacturers' reps to set key schedules.
• Collaborate with facility reps to maintain key boxes.
• Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

Job description

Performs a variety of skilled tasks associated with the trade of locksmith

• Utilizes schematics, drawings, layouts, or other specifications to locate and complete various task which include setting key schedules for a facility, working with a master key system such as Best Locks; follows manufacturer’s manuals and specific documentation for prepping doors to receive hardware components, pinning lock cores and/or duplication of keys
• Replaces and/or installs new equipment to improve operations and security
• Utilizes hand tools, testing and diagnostic equipment, and simple machine tools such as key cutting machine, grinders, and portable electric tools appropriate to the trade to complete assigned tasks
• Improvises acceptable fixes, if necessary, to get equipment and fixtures working properly while maintaining safety and security in the facility
• Works with manufacturers’ representatives to set key schedules per Fulton County Schools’ standards
• Works with school or facility representative to maintain facilities key box
• Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
  

Required Education

High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Certification/Licensure

Locksmith certification training preferred

Experience Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of experience required, 5 years preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Working knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and equipment of the locksmith trade and a "Master" key system
• Skilled in use of hand and power tools related to the trade
• Skilled in key duplication, picking locks and pinning cores
• Knowledge of all codes relating to the trade
• Technical problem-solving skills
• Must be able to understand and follow directions both written and verbal
• Must be able to work variable shifts

Working Conditions

• Regular exposure to weather including heat, cold, dampness, and/or humidity
• Must be able to work from tall ladders

Physical Demands

• Typically requires standing, climbing ladders, pushing and/or pulling
• Requires excellent manual dexterity to handle required tools
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry for short distances
