Job summary

The Sherwin-Williams Company is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic I for our Columbus, OH facility. You will troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair production and building systems to keep operations safe and efficient.

Key duties include PMs, repairs, and electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic work, reading schematics, and using shop tools. A forklift cert and 1+ year manufacturing maintenance experience are preferred, with safety as a priority.

Qualifications

• 1+ year experience as a mechanic in manufacturing/distribution environment.
• Industrial electrical or welding certification preferred.
• Maintenance experience applying electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic concepts.
• Experience implementing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform PMs, repairs, rebuilds, and modifications on building systems, production equipment, and warehouse equipment.
• Read basic drawings and schematic diagrams to guide maintenance work.
• Operate shop tools and equipment as skill level permits and assist in electrical projects.
• Maintain and service building systems such as lighting, compressed air, water and sewer, and nitrogen generation.
• Ensure safety rules are followed and participate in the plant safety program.

Job description

The Maintenance Mechanic I is responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing and correcting equipment breakdowns and facility maintenance as required to support the achievement of the site's business goals and objectives. This position also performs mechanical repairs, and preventative maintenance to ensure the ongoing integrity and reliability of equipment to keep the plant operating safely and efficiently.

Schedule: Night Shift 6:00pm - 6:00am 2-2-3 Schedule on D Shift

This position is also eligible for a bonus based on performance and subject to the terms of the Company's applicable plans.

Job duties include contact with other employees, operating heavy machinery, and access to proprietary information, raw materials, finished merchandise, and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company's staff, employees, and vendors.

• Perform PMs, repairs, rebuilds, and modifications on building systems, production equipment, and warehouse equipment
• Performs all necessary inspections, adjustments and replacement of parts while performing scheduled PM
• Operate shop tools and equipment as skill level will permit
• Assists in electrical projects and performs minor electrical repairs
• Understands basic electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic theory
• Able to read basic drawings and schematic diagrams
• Operates and maintains auxiliary systems such as solvent still, dust collector and thermal oxidizer
• Maintains and services a range of building systems such as lighting, compressed air, Nitrogen generation, water and sewer, etc.
• Assists in the installation of new plant equipment
• Key member of the Fire Response Team
• Assists other departments as needed
• Must be able to work 12-hours a day schedule
• Knows and willingly practices all safety rules and procedures and participates in the plant safety program including the wearing of appropriate safety apparel
• Must be certified by the Company to operate forklift and equipment in a safe and efficient manner
• Perform all job duties as assigned and directed by supervision or management that may not be listed on this job description
• Perform housekeeping duties as assigned and keeps area and equipment clean Properly handle hazardous waste as part of manufacturing operations, maintenance, raw material handling, and clean-up activities, in order to protect personnel, property and the environment
• Follow all EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) regulations and guidelines, including RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act)
• Maintain ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 certifications.

Minimum Requirements

• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
• Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future
• Must have at least one (1) year of work experience as a mechanic in a manufacturing and/or distribution environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Have at least two (2) years of work experience as a mechanic in a manufacturing and/or distribution environment
• Have an industrial, electrical, and/or welding certification or license
• Have at least one (1) year of maintenance experience applying electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic concepts
• Have at least one (1) year of work experience implementing Programmable Logic Controls ("PLC")
