Job summary

Sonoco's Columbia Recycling Plant is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic I for first shift (Mon-Fri, 7:00 AM–5:00 PM). You will troubleshoot, repair, and adjust equipment, perform changeovers, and provide preventative maintenance to plant assets.

The role requires mechanical/machinist or electrical background, ability to lift 10–50 lbs, and safe tool usage. PLC programming is a plus, with CMMS documentation of maintenance records.

Qualifications

• When applying, candidates should have a mechanical, machinist, or electrical background.
• Ability to lift 10-50 lbs, with occasional lifts up to 50 lbs.
• Bending, twisting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and reaching frequently.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots, repairs and adjusts equipment as needed.
• Performs equipment changeovers according to production demands.
• Provides preventative maintenance to plant equipment.
• Rebuilds presses and support equipment.
• Evaluates/maintains hand tools for condition and compliance.
• Familiar with mechanical prints; knowledge of motors and controls; troubleshooting skills.
• PLC programming is a plus.
• Uses hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely.
• Maintains maintenance training through the matrix; communicates with team.
• Records maintenance activities in CMMS system.
