City & Borough of Juneau is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Helper to assist in repair and upkeep of CBJ buildings and spaces. This role requires basic tools, willingness to learn, and ability to work as part of a team across multiple sites with a CBJ-provided vehicle.
The position follows a Monday–Friday schedule with potential overtime to ensure facilities are maintained, and includes responsibilities from painting to inventory management in a CMMS system.

This position typically works Monday through Friday 7:30am – 3:30pm, work outside of these hours may be required to help ensure facilities are maintained. Your day will start at the Mt Jumbo Shop located in Douglas, but considerable time will be spent working at other facilities around the CBJ.
This position will primarily be responsible for assisting with the repair and maintenance of CBJ facilities. Repair and maintenance may include but is not limited to; painting interior and exterior, removing clogs in drain lines, pressure washing, patching walls, inspecting fire extinguisher, and assisting higher-level mechanics with more complex work in the repair and maintenance of facilities. This position will also be responsible for helping to organize and maintain our inventory system and assist with the maintenance of our computer maintenance management system.
Your typical workday will start at the Mt. Jumbo Shop where you will review your assigned work in our computer maintenance management software and check in with your supervisor and coworkers before heading out to remote work sites in your CBJ provided vehicle. Once at remote work sites you will perform your assigned work either on your own or with another coworker. At the end of the day, you will report back to the Mt Jumbo Shop where you will discuss the day’s work and record the work that you have done in our computer maintenance management software.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in the construction and repair of buildings and structures or components at the apprentice or helper level.
Must possess and maintain own set of hand tools. A valid Alaska Driver's License at the time of appointment and for continued employment.
This position requires attendance at and certification in CPR, First Aid, and Confined Space.
