Job summary

City and Borough of Juneau Parks & Recreation is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Helper to support the repair and upkeep of CBJ facilities. The role starts at the Mt Jumbo Shop in Douglas and may involve work at other CBJ facilities, with hours Monday through Friday 7:30am–3:30pm.

Responsibilities include painting, unclogging drains, pressure washing, patching walls, and assisting senior mechanics. Candidate should have own hand tools, basic computer skills, and a readiness to learn.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in the construction and repair of buildings and structures or components at the apprentice or helper level.
• Must possess and maintain own set of hand tools.
• A valid Alaska Driver's License.
• CPR, First Aid, and Confined Space certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with repair and maintenance of CBJ facilities, including painting interior and exterior, removing clogs in drain lines, pressure washing, patching walls, inspecting fire extinguishers.
• Assist with organizing and maintaining inventory and the maintenance management system.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION

This position typically works Monday through Friday 7:30am – 3:30pm, work outside of these hours may be required to help ensure facilities are maintained. Your day will start at the Mt Jumbo Shop located in Douglas, but considerable time will be spent working at other facilities around the CBJ.

Typical Responsibilities

This position will primarily be responsible for assisting with the repair and maintenance of CBJ facilities. Repair and maintenance may include but is not limited to; painting interior and exterior, removing clogs in drain lines, pressure washing, patching walls, inspecting fire extinguisher, and assisting higher-level mechanics with more complex work in the repair and maintenance of facilities. This position will also be responsible for helping to organize and maintain our inventory system and assist with the maintenance of our computer maintenance management system.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience

• Two (2) years of experience in the construction and repair of buildings and structures or components at the apprentice or helper level.
