Job summary

Carpenter Co. is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic on 2nd shift at our Lakeland, FL plant.

You will troubleshoot, repair, install or replace mechanical, electrical and electro‑mechanical equipment and components. Responsibilities include disassembling and reassembling equipment, reading diagrams, preventive maintenance, and operating/maintaining pneumatic and hydraulic systems, conveyors, and related controls.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2–3 years of technical training preferred.
• 2–3 years of prior mechanic experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Strong communication and math skills.
• Ability to earn forklift certification and operate site equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and disassemble manufacturing equipment.
• Read and interpret basic machine diagrams and plant layouts.
• Interpret drawings with advanced shop math and formulas.
• Perform preventive maintenance on machinery and/or equipment.
• Identify potential mechanical problems, plan a repair, and implement the plan.
• Assemble, install, troubleshoot and maintain pneumatic, hydraulic and power transfer systems, motors, pumps, filters, and electrical control devices.
• Maintain conveyor systems and components, belts, bearings, sprockets and gear reducers.
• Assist with calibration of in-plant electrical equipment.
• Communicate potential problems to management.
• Perform basic plumbing on machinery and/or equipment.
• Follow instructions from the Mechanic/Electrician A or Lead Person.
• Maintain plant fire system.
• Serve on plant emergency response team.

Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Mechanic on 2nd shift at our Lakeland, FL manufacturing plant. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, installing, or replacing mechanical equipment or mechanical, electrical and electro‑mechanical devices and components.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and disassemble manufacturing equipment.
• Read and interpret basic machine diagrams and plant layout drawings.
• Interpret complicated drawings, using advanced shop math and handbook formulas.
• Perform preventive maintenance on assigned machinery and/or equipment.
• Identify potential mechanical problems, plan a solution for repair, and implement the plan.
• Assemble, install, troubleshoot and maintain pneumatic, hydraulic and power transfer systems, motors, pumps, filters, air compressors, electrical control devices, and chillers.
• Maintain conveyor systems and components, belts, bearings, sprockets and gear reducers.
• Assist with the calibration of in‑plant electrical equipment.
• Timely communicate potential problems or issues affecting plant performance to management.
• Perform basic plumbing on machinery and/or equipment.
• Communicate, accept input, and follow instructions from the Mechanic/Electrician A or Lead Person.
• Maintain plant fire system.
• Serve on plant emergency response team.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2 to 3 years of specialty or technical training preferred.
• 2–3 years of prior mechanic experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Good communication and advanced math skills.
• Ability to earn a Carpenter Co. forklift certification.
• Ability to safely operate a Genie boom and scissor lift.
• Must be able to work flexible hours.
• Must possess a variety of personally owned industrial/electrical hand tools.
• Computer literate; fluent in the use of machine control interfaces (HMI / touch screens).
