The Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center is looking to hire a Maintenance Mechanic to performsemi-skilled and skilled work in the repair and maintenance of commercial mechanical electrical and mechanical machinery. Employees in this classification may perform miscellaneous mechanical tasks under general technical direction. The work is characterized by the independent nature of the tasks performed, and may involve training and overseeing lower-level staff. Under general supervision, the employee exercises use of initiative and judgment in determining the nature of repairs and developing work methods and procedures. Work is characterized by frequent contact with clients, staff, and the general public. Commitment to a high level of quality and customer service is required.

Even if every item on the job posting doesn’t match your experience perfectly, we encourage you to apply and share how your skills and experience can best serve our community.- Perform a wide variety of skilled maintenance, troubleshooting and repair tasks involving carpentry, electrical, electronic, mechanical, HVAC and equipment, such as: gas and electric motors, high and low pressure steam systems, HVAC controls, electrical and plumbing fixtures, compressors, welding equipment, deep-well and auxiliary pumps, furnaces, water heaters, boilers, softeners and meters, electric generators, refrigeration and food service equipment, and other related mechanical structures.
- Perform plumbing repairs, such as flush valves, automatic faucets drain rodding etc.
- Repair/replace weather-stripping, adjust doors, closers etc.
- Run power washing and snow removal equipment.
- Maintain and repair floor cleaning, power washing and snow removal equipment.
- Grease motors, change and adjust belts, and change filters (air and water).
- Design and construct specialized mechanical equipment and special metal parts.
- Assist contractors and inspectors to address commercial building maintenance needs and code compliance.
- Initiate and/or prioritize assignments and use computer to maintain records and to prepare reports.
- Requisition materials, parts and maintain stock records and inventories.
- Train, oversee and inspect the work of lower level staff.
- Perform frequent maintenance and repair requests from convention center staff, clients, and general public in customer facing areas of the building.
- Inspect and adjust work schedules and assignments in response to customers' needs and overall priorities.
Perform related work as assigned.
- Three (3) years of experience in semi-skilled or skilled commercial building and mechanical repair work.
- Directly related training in applicable HVAC, electrical, welding, and/or plumbing.
OR- Two (2) years of experience in semi-skilled or skilled building and mechanical, or technician repair work, including at least six (6) months of formal trade work.
- Technical diploma in an Industrial Maintenance/Mechanic or related program.
OR- One (1) year of experience in semi-skilled or skilled building and mechanical, or technician repair work, including at least six (6) months of formal trade work.
- Associate's degree in Industrial Maintenance/Mechanics or related field.
OR
Two (2) years of experience with the following:
- Methods and practices of commercial building maintenance, troubleshooting and repair, including tools, equipment, supplies and materials.
- Construction and operation of commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, steam and electrical systems.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Familiarity with the following:
The use of standard tools used in building maintenance and mechanical repair work.
Computer systems and software applicable to the position.

Physical Requirements:
Employees in this position may be expected to lift up to 100 pounds on a regular basis. Employees must be able to engage in strenuous physical labor, bend, twist, climb ladders and scaffolding, etc. Ability to operate an air lift, and crawl and climb in confined spaces. Employee may be expected to work in inclement weather conditions. In addition, employees may be expected to respond to emergencies outside of regular work hours.
