Job summary

Sonoco in Hanover, PA is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic/Machinist for night shifts (7:00 PM–7:00 AM) with a rotating schedule. The role includes troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of hydraulic systems, pneumatic actuators, conveyors, and motors per CMMS guidelines.

You will diagnose basic electrical and PLC faults, minimize downtime, and train other maintenance staff while adhering to safety and quality policies. This is a hands‑on role in a global packaging leader.

Qualifications

• Experience in an industrial manufacturing environment or equivalent military experience.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with systematic troubleshooting abilities.
• Experience with PLCs, electrical and motor controls.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in rotating night shifts.
• Willing to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain hydraulic, pneumatic, conveyors, and three‑phase motors.
• Perform preventive maintenance per CMMS schedule.
• Repair utility and facility equipment under Maintenance Supervisor guidance.
• Diagnose basic electrical and PLC faults from schematics and tools.
• Respond quickly to downtime to minimize losses.
• Assist and train other maintenance staff on repairs and rebuilds.
• Collaborate with production to resolve equipment issues.
• Maintain a safe, clean work area and uphold quality policies.
• Manage small projects to upgrade equipment.

Position: Maintenance Mechanic/Machinist

Location: Hanover, PA

Pay Rate: $28.03 - $37.47 (depending on experience)

Shift: Night Shift - 7:00PM-7:00AM (rotating schedule) ($0.45 shift differential for night shift)

What You Will Be Doing

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain hydraulic systems, pneumatic actuators, conveyor networks, and three-phase motors.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance inspections according to our CMMS schedule.
• Maintaining and repairing utility and facility‑related equipment as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor
• Diagnose basic electrical and PLC faults using schematic blueprints and digital tools.
• Respond rapidly to emergency production line breakdowns to minimize operational downtime.
• Assisting and training other maintenance personnel with repairs, preventive maintenance, and rebuilds.
• Collaborating closely with production and other departments to proactively resolve equipment issues.
• Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work area.
• Managing small projects to maintain or upgrade equipment.
• Performing all duties in full support of Sonoco’s quality and safety policies.

We’d Love To Hear From You If

• You have experience in an industrial environment or relevant military experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining manufacturing equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with systematic troubleshooting abilities.
• Experience with PLC troubleshooting, industrial controls, and motor controls (strong plus).
• Comfortable using mechanical lifts and ladders, and with kneeling, bending, and twisting; able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Work independently, prioritize and manage multiple tasks, and are willing to work an off‑shift position with rotating shifts and overtime, including weekends.
