The City of El Paso seeks a Maintenance Mechanic to perform a variety of repair, maintenance, and installation tasks on HVAC and other mechanical systems. Ideal candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and relevant experience in building trades. Education and Experience: A High School diploma or GED or higher, and two (2) years of heating, air conditioning, building trades, or construction experience.
Licenses and Certificates: Some positions may require a Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state, or a Class "B" Commercial Driver's License. Some positions may require Refrigerant Transition and Recovery certification and/or other EPA and Texas certifications within six (6) months of employment.
Under general supervision, perform a variety of repair, maintenance, installation, and related services involving heating, air conditioning, ventilation, pumping, pipes, fittings, and other facility mechanical systems.
Perform repair, maintenance, and installation tasks within the specific area of assignment, including assessing, organizing, and executing work assignments. Identify parts, equipment, materials, supplies, and deliver or fill chemical tanks as needed, including chlorine tanks. Coordinate scheduling and work activities with other trades, vendors, contractors, departments, and others. Review, assess, and inspect work in progress and upon completion. Maintain files, records, reports, and logs. Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean.
Perform a variety of hands-on general or specialized maintenance tasks, utilizing standard and specialized tools and equipment. Tasks may include changing filters, balancing air or water flow, maintaining pumps, repairing or replacing filters, valves, lines, pipes, motors, and other components. Maintain bar screens, industrial compressors, blowers, oxygen production units, clarifiers, digesters, sludge drag systems, chain sprockets, grit collectors, and other water or wastewater treatment units. Troubleshoot and perform routine, preventive, or emergency maintenance on baggage belts, jet bridges, air handlers, water heaters, HVAC units, water coolers, motor controls, pneumatic controls, plumbing, and other equipment. Assist in training new employees.
Perform related duties as required, including covering for subordinate personnel or others to ensure operational continuity during absences. May be assigned lead worker responsibilities. Interact with supervisors, vendors, contractors, other departments, coworkers, and the public. Provide accurate information and assist in resolving problems.
