Biloxi Housing Authority is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to perform a range of repairs across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building maintenance in Biloxi, MS. The role includes grounds upkeep, responding to work orders, and communicating with tenants and staff.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED with 4+ years in building maintenance; trade certification or a license is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Skilled building trade license preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Makes general repairs to interior/exterior of buildings and facilities across HVAC, electrical, gas, plumbing and carpentry trades.
  • Maintains and repairs household appliances, tools, and equipment.
  • Performs grounds maintenance of roads, sidewalks, parking areas, lighting, and recreation areas.
  • Repairs or replaces damaged materials including walls, roofs, doors, windows, floors, cabinets and plumbing fixtures.
  • Maintains communication with customers and staff; reports unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  • Responds to work orders and completes assigned tasks promptly.
  • With prior supervisory notice, may work emergencies and after-hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Makes general repairs to the interior/exterior of BHA buildings and facilities, employing a high degree of skill in the HVAC, electrical, gas, plumbing, and carpentry trades.
  • Maintains and makes general repairs to household appliances, BHA tools, and equipment.
  • Performs general grounds maintenance by maintaining BHA roads, sidewalks, driveways and parking areas; security lighting, playground and recreational equipment and furnishings; fencing, garbage and trash receptacles and facilities; drainage culverts, sewers, retention ponds and catch basins; and clothes poles and clothes lines.
  • Repairs or replaces damaged materials or components of building, including, but not limited to: walls, roofs, foundations, doors and windows, rainwater drainage systems, floors and floor covering materials, cabinets and wood trim, plumbing fixtures, and heating/cooling equipment.
  • Maintains communication regarding maintenance issues with customers and BHA personnel; reports problems regarding unsafe or unsatisfactory conditions to supervisor.
  • Responds to work orders submitted by tenants or Authority staff members, and completes all assigned work in a timely manner.
  • With prior supervisory notice and approval, may work emergency and after business hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Minimum Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or GED, or trade or vocational school certification, focusing in HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs, and at least four (4) years of related experience in construction or building maintenance; possession of a skilled building trade license preferred; or
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which, in the sole determination of the BHA, provides the required knowledge and abilities, may be considered sufficient.
