Job summary

Pero Family Farms is seeking a Maintenance Manager to oversee equipment maintenance, facility upkeep, and regulatory compliance in a food manufacturing setting. The role requires strong mechanical/electrical knowledge and hands-on leadership to improve reliability and safety.

The position reports to the General Manager and is based onsite in Delray Beach, FL, with responsibilities spanning budgeting, vendor management, and driving continuous improvement across maintenance processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
• Experience in maintenance management within the food manufacturing industry highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical systems, and automation technologies.
• Familiarity with HACCP principles and food safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the condition of equipment and facilities, identify maintenance needs.
• Develop and implement maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
• Create preventive maintenance programs for all machinery and equipment used in food production.
• Coordinate with production managers to schedule downtime with minimal production disruption.
• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate timely repairs.
• Establish safe work procedures and monitor compliance by maintenance staff.
• Supervise maintenance staff in routine facility upkeep including HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and repairs.
• Oversee sanitation and cleanliness standards per food safety regulations.
• Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, OSHA and other regulations governing food facilities.
• Maintain records of maintenance, inspections and regulatory compliance.
• Develop and manage the maintenance department budget and forecast expenses.
• Evaluate external contractors and vendors for maintenance services.
• Drive continuous improvement in equipment reliability and energy efficiency.

JOB SUMMARY

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of equipment maintenance, facility upkeep, and compliance within the food manufacturing environment. This position requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, electrical systems, and regulatory requirements governing food production facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitor the condition of equipment/facilities and identify maintenance needs.
• Develop and implement a schedule for regular maintenance of equipment and facilities to minimize downtime.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for all machinery and equipment used in food production.
• Coordinate with production managers and supervisors to schedule downtime for maintenance activities while minimizing disruptions to production schedules.
• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs to ensure minimal downtime.
• Establish and maintain safe work procedures and practices and monitor maintenance staff to ensure compliance.
• Supervise maintenance staff in performing routine facility upkeep tasks, including HVAC systems, plumbing, lighting, and structural repairs.
• Oversee the maintenance of sanitation and cleanliness standards in accordance with food safety regulations.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory standards, including FDA, USDA, OSHA, and other local and federal regulations governing food manufacturing facilities.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inspections, and regulatory compliance documentation.
• Develop and manage the maintenance department budget, including forecasting expenses for repairs, supplies, and personnel.
• Evaluate and select external contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance services.
• Develop, implement, and monitor strategies for continuous improvement in equipment reliability and effectiveness.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost optimization within the maintenance department.
• Apply knowledge of industry trends and technologies to develop and implement best practices for equipment reliability, energy efficiency, and safety enhancements.
• Provide leadership and guidance to maintenance staff, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning.
• Manage the performance of the maintenance staff including evaluations, training, development, coaching and feedback.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred.
• Previous experience in maintenance management within the food manufacturing industry highly desirable.

ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS

• Work performed primarily in a food manufacturing/processing facility, including production areas, maintenance workshop, and equipment rooms.
• Exposure to varying temperatures depending on production zones (e.g., refrigerated areas, warm processing areas).
• Frequent exposure to loud noise levels, requiring hearing protection in certain areas.
• Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, conveyors, production machinery, and tools.
• Possible exposure to wet or humid conditions, cleaning chemicals, and food allergens.
• Must follow all food safety, sanitation, and GMP protocols, including wearing appropriate PPE (hairnets, gloves, safety shoes, protective eyewear, etc.).
• May require responding to equipment issues during off-hours, weekends, or emergencies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods of time.
• Ability to climb ladders, work on elevated platforms, and access confined or hard-to-reach spaces.
• Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs regularly; occasional lifting over 50 lbs with assistance or equipment.
• Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching to inspect or repair machinery.
• Ability to safely operate tools, testing equipment, lifts, and other maintenance machinery.
• Must have sufficient manual dexterity and hand–eye coordination to perform repairs and operate electrical/mechanical tools.
• Visual acuity required to read schematics, inspect equipment, and perform detailed mechanical or electrical troubleshooting.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet physical demands during emergency repairs or production downtime situations.
• Must be able to wear required PPE for prolonged periods.
