Job summary

Hudbay Minerals U.S. Business Unit seeks a Maintenance Manager – Fixed Plant Equipment to lead all fixed plant maintenance activities across the Copper World processing facilities in Helvetia, AZ.

You will drive maintenance planning, scheduling, and reliability initiatives while partnering with Operations, Metallurgy and Engineering to maximize plant availability. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field and 15+ years in mining/heavy industry maintenance, including 5+ years in

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and extensive maintenance experience in mining or heavy industrial operations.
  • 15+ years of maintenance experience in mining or heavy industrial operations.
  • 10+ years supporting large mineral processing facilities.
  • 5+ years in maintenance leadership roles.

Responsibilities

  • Lead fixed plant maintenance activities across crushing, grinding, flotation, filtration, tailings, water, utilities and related infrastructure.
  • Develop maintenance planning, scheduling, preventive maintenance, and shutdown strategies.
  • Lead major plant shutdowns, turnarounds, and outage activities.
  • Establish equipment preservation and asset care programs and manage OEM support and contractor management.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, productivity, and cost optimization.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.

Purpose Of Role

The Maintenance Manager – Fixed Plant Equipment is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and governance for all fixed plant maintenance activities across the Copper World processing facilities.

The role is accountable for maintenance execution, planning and scheduling, shutdown management, electrical and instrumentation maintenance, maintenance readiness, workforce development, and asset care programs to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations.

The position supports project development, commissioning, startup, ramp-up, and operational excellence through close collaboration with Operations, Metallurgy, Reliability, Process Control, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Operational Readiness teams.

Role Accountabilities
Leadership & Strategic Management
  • Lead all fixed plant maintenance activities across crushing, grinding, flotation, filtration, tailings, water, utilities, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Establish and implement maintenance management systems, standards, procedures, and work management processes.
  • Develop workforce capability through recruitment, training, coaching, and succession planning.
  • Partner with Operations and Metallurgy teams to maximize plant availability and performance.
  • Manage maintenance operating budgets, contracts, and cost control initiatives.
Planning, Execution & Operational Readiness
  • Develop maintenance planning, scheduling, preventive maintenance, and shutdown strategies.
  • Lead maintenance readiness activities supporting commissioning, startup, and ramp-up.
  • Lead major plant shutdowns, turnarounds, and outage activities.
  • Establish equipment preservation and asset care programs.
  • Coordinate OEM support, contractor management, and technical service providers.
  • Support operational readiness assessments and audits.
Engineering, Strategy & Continuous Improvement
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, productivity, and cost optimization.
  • Provide input into sustaining capital planning and long-term asset management strategies.
  • Participating in engineering reviews to ensure maintainability, operability, accessibility, and safety requirements are incorporated into project designs.
  • Participate in benchmarking and continuous improvement programs.
  • Support corporate technical reviews and due diligence activities.
Compliance, Safety & General Duties
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in emergency response and business continuity planning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 15 years of maintenance experience in mining or heavy industrial operations.
  • Minimum 10 years supporting large mineral processing facilities.
  • Minimum 5 years in maintenance leadership positions.
Preferred
  • Copper concentrator experience.
  • Greenfield project experience.
  • Commissioning and startup experience.
  • Project Management experience
  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP).
