Position Summary:
Microbial Discovery Group is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to oversee the maintenance operations at our manufacturing facilities. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of all equipment, utilities, and infrastructure. The Maintenance Manager will lead a team of technicians, develop preventive maintenance programs, and support continuous improvement initiatives to optimize production performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all manufacturing equipment, utilities, and infrastructure are properly maintained to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee a robust preventive and predictive maintenance program to reduce unplanned breakdowns.
  • Lead and train maintenance technicians, fostering safety and continuous improvement, while ensuring staff are up-to-date with technologies and best practices.
  • Oversee the maintenance budget to ensure cost-effective operations, equipment reliability, and safety, while tracking expenses and identifying savings with the Director of Process Operations and Engineering.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and automation-related issues in a timely manner to support production schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines (e.g., OSHA, GMP, HACCP).
  • Assist in planning and executing facility upgrades, new equipment installations, and process improvements.
  • Coordinate with external service providers for specialized maintenance needs, spare parts, and major repairs.
  • Maintain appropriate spare parts inventory to prevent operational disruptions while optimizing costs.
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing maintenance processes, reducing costs, and increasing equipment reliability and performance.
  • Utilize maintenance management software to track performance metrics, analyze data, and generate reports that inform decision-making and highlight areas for improvement.
  • Monitor and improve energy efficiency, water usage, and waste management to support sustainability initiatives.
  • Work closely with production, quality assurance, and engineering teams to ensure alignment of maintenance activities with operational goals.
  • Assist with emergency response plans for equipment failures or other incidents that could impact production, ensuring rapid recovery and minimal disruption.

Qualifications:
Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial maintenance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of maintenance experience in manufacturing, food production, biotechnology, or fermentation environment
  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience in a maintenance role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automation systems.
  • Experience with Limble (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) and asset management practices .
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, organizational abilities, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, GMP, HACCP, and other industry standards


Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Engage hands-on with equipment and materials across three facilities, involving activities such as climbing ladders, walking, bending, scooping, kneeling, and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs).
  • May be exposed to airborne particles and chemicals used in fermentation production facilities.


Safety Requirements:

  • Adherence to all company safety procedures and regulations to maintain a safe working environment including ladder safety, ergonomic practices, and proper use of PPE.
