Job summary

GL Staffing is seeking a Maintenance Manager to lead a team responsible for reliability, availability, and performance of production equipment and facility systems in Lancaster, NH.

Job description

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and managing maintenance activities, resources, and personnel to maximize the reliability, availability, and performance of production equipment and facility systems. This role provides leadership for the maintenance department while exercising independent judgment in decisions related to equipment reliability, facility operations, safety, and continuous improvement.

The Maintenance Manager will lead a team of maintenance professionals, oversee preventive maintenance programs, support capital projects, manage external contractors, and ensure equipment and facility operations meet production, quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Salary range: 80k - 100k a year

Location: Lancaster, NH

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the maintenance department budget to support operational goals and company objectives.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain maintenance policies, procedures, and processes to improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Lead, coach, and develop maintenance team members, including performance evaluations, training, development plans, and corrective actions when needed.
  • Plan, prioritize, and coordinate maintenance activities in partnership with Production and Operations leadership.
  • Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize equipment downtime and improve asset performance.
  • Develop daily and weekly maintenance planning processes to ensure effective scheduling, documentation, and completion of work activities.
  • Monitor maintenance performance metrics and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Support capital improvement projects, equipment installations, facility upgrades, and infrastructure initiatives.
  • Evaluate equipment upgrades, technology improvements, and automation opportunities to increase efficiency and competitiveness.
  • Participate in equipment selection processes, including developing specifications for new and used equipment.
  • Make recommendations regarding repair versus replacement decisions and internal versus external maintenance resources.
  • Manage relationships with contractors and vendors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, cost-effectively, and according to company standards.
  • Serve as a key resource for safety initiatives involving equipment, facilities, and maintenance operations.
  • Support compliance with applicable safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.

Facility Sanitation Responsibilities

  • Oversee facility sanitation activities to ensure a clean, safe, and compliant manufacturing environment.
  • Ensure sanitation practices support quality standards, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and regulatory requirements.
  • Prioritize sanitation activities and ensure teams have the appropriate tools, supplies, and equipment.
  • Inspect facilities for cleanliness, safety concerns, and sanitation deficiencies.
  • Partner with production and management teams to identify and resolve sanitation challenges.
  • Recommend improvements to equipment, facility layout, processes, lighting, ventilation, and work practices to enhance sanitation standards.
  • Maintain required documentation related to inspections, corrective actions, and sanitation activities.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Directly supervise a maintenance team of approximately up to 10 employees.
  • Assign work, provide technical guidance, and support employee development.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience managing maintenance operations in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees, contractors, vendors, production teams, and leadership.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with maintenance management systems, work order processes, and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Knowledge of industrial equipment, mechanical systems, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, automation systems, and SCADA systems preferred.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing equipment such as mixers, fillers, packaging systems, conveyors, processing equipment, or similar industrial machinery preferred.
  • Understanding of machining, fabrication, electrical, and mechanical trades preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred; or
  • Minimum of five years of progressive maintenance experience, including leadership responsibilities; or
  • Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant experience.

Technical and Communication Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents, business reports, maintenance procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to prepare reports, documentation, procedures, and business correspondence.
  • Ability to present information effectively to employees, management, vendors, and external partners.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, communicate, and use hands for handling tools and equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally climb, balance, bend, kneel, crawl, and work in industrial environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work around machinery, electrical systems, elevated areas, and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing facility environment.
  • Exposure may include moving mechanical equipment, industrial machinery, electrical systems, noise, airborne particles, and other typical manufacturing conditions.
  • Occasional travel for training, vendor meetings, or professional development may be required.
