Job summary

AMaintenance Manager at ARAUCO North America, Inc. oversees reliability and maintenance strategies at the Grayling, MI site, reporting to the Plant Manager. Focus on safety, uptime, budget management, and continuous improvement across electrical and mechanical systems.

Leads preventive/predictive programs, coordinates outages, and drives root cause analysis to improve asset performance and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in industrial maintenance.
• Experience with SAP PM or CMMS.
• Mechanical (electrical preferred) background.
• Ability to perform calculations (density, air flows, etc.).
• Strong planning/organization and people skills.
• Lead projects from design to execution.
• Degree in maintenance/mechanical/electrical engineering preferred.
• Experience in wood/paper or capital projects is a plus.
• Certificates/licenses in related field are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute reliability and maintenance strategies aligned with ISO 55000.
• Lead safety culture and ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Monitor KPIs related to safety, reliability, asset performance, and uptime.
• Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance, outages, and major events.
• Prioritize and direct maintenance work orders and staffing.
• Lead maintenance and reliability projects budgeting and scheduling.
• Direct maintenance for production equipment and utilities.
• Analyze data to identify improvement opportunities and optimize performance.
• Drive root cause analyses and implement corrective actions.
• Develop maintenance processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Quality and other departments.
• Oversee equipment inspections for compliance with standards.
• Manage departmental budgets and performance reporting.
• Provide training and development for maintenance personnel.
• Establish site fire prevention strategies and risk mitigation with insurers.
• Prepare monthly reliability and maintenance reports to leadership.

This role is located onsite at our Grayling, MI manufacturing site and reports directly to the Plant Manager.

What we are looking for:

• 8 + years’ of experience in industrial maintenance
• Proficiency in SAP PM (or other CMMS), MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Must have experience in mechanical (experience in electrical is also highly preferred, but not a must-have)
• Must be skilled in understanding and calculating mathematical concepts (ex: calculating density, air flows, thermal oil systems, calculating horsepower, electrical usage, etc).
• Must have the ability to plan and organize, must have ability to work well with people at all levels.
• Must be able to lead a project from start to finish with the design, scope, and execution of the project
• Degree in maintenance, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field of study preferred.
• Experience in wood or paper products is a plus!
• Previous experience in construction related projects (capital projects)
• Allen Bradley and/or previous PLC experience, along w/ power transmission, automation experience is a great plus
• Certificates, licenses, and registrations in related field is also a plus.

In this role, you would:

• Develop and execute reliability and maintenance strategies aligned with corporate standards, industry best practices, and frameworks such as ISO 55000.
• Lead and promote a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with company safety standards and the protection of personnel, equipment, and facilities.
• Monitor and drive key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety, reliability, asset performance, maintenance effectiveness, and plant uptime.
• Establish and oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs, including planning for scheduled outages, shutdowns, and major maintenance events.
• Prioritize, coordinate, and direct maintenance work orders and personnel activities to support operational objectives.
• Lead maintenance and reliability projects, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, staffing, resource allocation, and execution.
• Direct maintenance activities for production equipment and utility systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
• Analyze maintenance, production and quality data to identify improvement opportunities and optimize equipment performance.
• Drive root cause analysis investigations for equipment failures and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.
• Develop and implement maintenance processes, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives that reduce costs, improve productivity, and maximize resource utilization.
• Partner with Engineering, Operations, Quality and other departments to resolve equipment issues, support new installations and modifications, and meet business needs.
• Oversee equipment inspections to ensure compliance with operational, safety, and reliability standards.
• Manage departmental budgets, maintenance costs, and performance reporting.
• Ensure maintenance personnel receive appropriate training, development and guidance to support safe and effective job performance.
• Establish and maintain site fire prevention strategies in compliance with company policies, insurance requirements and applicable regulatory standards.
• Monitor insurer recommendations and drive implementation of approved risk mitigation measures.
• Prepare and communicate monthly reliability, maintenance and performance reports to leadership.
