Job summary

TekPro in Detroit is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead plant maintenance, ensuring safety, reliability and uptime for production and facilities.

This hands-on role requires managing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs, troubleshooting boilers, furnaces, piping, pumps, valves and related equipment, and coordinating shutdowns.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Heavy industrial maintenance leadership experience.
  • Experience with boilers, furnaces, piping and related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and oversee the plant's maintenance team and day-to-day activities.
  • Manage preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for production and facility equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and oversee repairs involving boilers, furnaces, piping, pumps, valves and related equipment.
  • Coordinate planned shutdowns, outages, inspections, major repairs, and upgrades.
  • Collaborate with operations and engineering to improve equipment reliability and uptime.
  • Identify recurring failures and drive root-cause corrective actions.
  • Prioritize maintenance work orders by safety, production, and criticality.
  • Manage outside contractors and vendors for maintenance projects.
  • Ensure safety procedures and regulatory compliance in all activities.
  • Support capital projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Track maintenance KPIs, costs, downtime, and reliability.
  • Maintain a strong plant-floor presence and hands-on leadership during issues.

Job description

We are partnering with a well-established heavy industrial manufacturing organization looking to add an experienced Maintenance Manager to its operation. This individual will take ownership of plant maintenance activities, lead the maintenance team, and ensure critical production and facility equipment remains safe, reliable, and operational.

This is a highly visible, hands‑on leadership position for someone comfortable working in a heavy industrial environment and spending time on the plant floor. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical maintenance experience involving boilers, furnaces, piping systems, or other relevant heavy industrial equipment.

  • Bonus: STIP short‑term incentive payments tied to performance, plus other Operations incentive programs.
  • 401(k): 100% company match up to 6% of monthly base salary.
  • Additional Retirement: Separate company‑funded Retirement Account based on a percentage of base salary, on top of the 401(k).
  • PTO: 2 weeks prorated year one, then 3 weeks starting January 1 of year two, plus 9 holidays and a personal day.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead, develop, and oversee the plant's maintenance team and day‑to‑day maintenance activities.

  • Troubleshoot and oversee repairs involving boilers, furnaces, piping, pumps, valves, mechanical systems, and related industrial equipment.
  • Coordinate planned shutdowns, outages, inspections, major repairs, and equipment upgrades.
  • Work closely with operations and engineering to improve equipment reliability, uptime, and overall plant performance.
  • Identify recurring equipment failures and drive root‑cause corrective actions.
  • Prioritize maintenance work orders based on safety, production requirements, and equipment criticality.
  • Manage outside contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance and repair projects.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with plant safety procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Support capital projects, equipment installations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Track maintenance KPIs, costs, downtime, and equipment reliability.
  • Maintain a strong presence on the plant floor and provide hands‑on leadership during equipment issues and production disruptions.
What We're Looking For:
  • Previous Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Superintendent, Reliability Manager, or similar industrial maintenance leadership experience.
  • Strong mechanical maintenance background within a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with boilers, industrial furnaces, piping systems, or closely related industrial equipment is required.
  • Working knowledge of equipment such as pumps, valves, motors, hydraulics, pneumatics, compressed air, steam, and other plant utility/mechanical systems is highly preferred.
  • Experience leading skilled maintenance personnel and coordinating maintenance priorities with production.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root‑cause problem‑solving abilities.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs, shutdowns/outages, and equipment reliability initiatives.
  • Comfortable operating in a hands‑on, floor‑focused leadership role.
  • Steel, metals, foundry, forging, heat treating, chemical, power generation, or other heavy industrial experience is highly desirable.
