Job description

Job Description

Distribution Center Maintenance Manager must be knowledgeable in all facets of the Maintenance Department and have general knowledge of all other departments within the facility. The role manages the Maintenance Department, equipment assigned to the facility, and the facility in general. The Manager must think quickly, make sound decisions with support from the Distribution Center Manager, and act as the point of contact for all construction and major repairs within the property lines. The Manager mentors team leads toward future Maintenance Manager assignments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage with the DC General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Operations Managers, and Department Managers to discuss and review workload, allocation of team members, goals, and performance.
  • Conduct start‑up meetings with department team members to review expectations, safety issues, and work assignments.
  • Oversee repair and maintenance of equipment, assign work orders, prioritize safety and production work, and assist Team Leads and members with diagnosis and repairs.
  • Manage Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs and ensure schedules are followed to minimize downtime.
  • Obtain and review contractor bids, determine appropriate contractors, hire them, and ensure adherence to quality, scheduling, and budget standards.
  • Develop, implement, and administer operational policies, programs, and systems; establish procedures, resolve mechanical problems, and communicate approvals.
  • Hire, orient, train, evaluate, and develop team members; perform disciplinary actions and recommend terminations in conjunction with the Distribution Center Manager.
  • Recommend and implement additions, modifications, and improvements to facility systems in coordination with corporate offices.
  • Share and provide relevant information and anticipate information needs in accordance with company quality and communication schedules.
  • Ensure building, grounds, and equipment are clean and well maintained; manage the waste disposal and EPA programs.
  • Interact with facility management to ensure maintenance needs are met; tour the facility to maintain its condition.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and turn required paperwork into Human Resources.
  • Follow all maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Ensure replacement parts, tools, and supplies are properly accounted for and stored.
  • Maintain a minimum quantity of spare parts to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure the department has proper equipment and qualified personnel.
  • Maintain technical catalogs, drawings, blueprints, procedures, and vendor contacts.
  • Monitor Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) for the entire distribution center.
  • Manage the Maintenance Department budget (P&L).
  • Maintain the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Additional Duties
  • Complete functional and detailed knowledge of all shop equipment, test equipment, and hand/power tools.
  • Experience with sortation, cross belt sortation preferred.
  • Knowledge of conveyor systems, lift equipment, and material handling equipment.
  • Understanding of building, HVAC, lighting, electrical, and related structures.
  • Knowledge of security controls and fire protection systems.
  • Maintain proper workflow through the department.
  • Be available to assist in the work area and resolve issues as required.
  • Complete any additional duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly or indirectly supervises all Maintenance Department team members. Supervisory duties include training, planning, assigning, and directing work; conducting performance appraisals; rewarding and counseling; addressing complaints; and resolving issues. May have direct authority over one or more Department Team Leads.

  • Good analytical ability to gather and interpret information and develop and implement solutions.
  • Knowledge and skill in blueprint and schematic reading.
  • Ability to read and write detailed instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to present information in one‑on‑one and group settings.
  • Must be bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Ability to handle problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to use the metric system in all aspects of the position.
Work Schedule

Required to work various shifts, departments, and locations as needed; overtime, weekends, and holidays are required.

Education and Experience

Associate’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering required; bachelor’s degree preferred. Five to eight years of related experience or training, with a minimum of five years of maintenance and supervisory experience in a distribution center.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Post‑hire certifications may be required to comply with safety standards for operating machinery or equipment.

Physical Demands

Regularly sit and talk; occasional standing, walking, use of hands; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Must lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts; occasional exposure to high places, fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise level may be high at times.

Compensation Range

The salary estimate for this role ranges from 100,000.00 USD to 132,900.00 USD, depending on geographic location, experience, education, leadership roles, skillsets, and shift differentials.
