Job summary

Transdev is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to oversee day-to-day operations of mechanics, bus washers, utility workers, and admin staff for WMATA Metro Access in Capital Heights, MD & Springfield, VA.

The role ensures DOT, client, and company standards are met, with facilities operating across three shifts to complete testing and inspections and maintain fleet reliability and safety.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License and clear MVR
  • 7 years+ experience in the repair and maintenance of automotive and transit equipment
  • 3 years+ of supervisory experience
  • A broad understanding of all mechanical systems related to heavy-duty transportation vehicles
  • Familiarity with laws & regulations associated with the safe operation of maintenance facilities
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical, if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, and schedule Maintenance Technicians
  • Approve priority of maintenance and repairs based on availability of materials and parts and requirements of scheduled operations
  • Coordinate and oversee work performed by outside vendors
  • Ensure company and client equipment is maintained and operating efficiently
  • Manage inventory
  • Implement safety policies and procedures for the department per corporate requirements
  • Participate in the development and administration of the operational budget
  • Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods
  • Oversee preventive maintenance and repair programs for paratransit vehicles
  • Ensure all vehicles meet safety, regulatory, and operational standards
  • Monitor vehicle condition, reliability, and service availability
  • Coordinate inspections, warranty repairs, and vendor services
  • Implement maintenance schedules to minimize downtime
  • Ensure compliance with FTA, DOT, OSHA, ADA, environmental, and local regulatory requirements
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections
  • Investigate vehicle incidents and maintenance-related failures
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and compliance records
  • Develop and manage maintenance operating and capital budgets
  • Monitor expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Oversee inventory control and procurement of parts, tools, and equipment
  • Support fleet replacement planning and asset lifecycle management
  • Coordinate closely with operations and dispatch teams to maintain service levels
  • Analyze maintenance performance metrics and KPIs
  • Implement corrective actions to improve fleet reliability and efficiency
  • Manage vendor relationships and service contracts
  • Other duties as required.

Transdev is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to support or WMATA Metro Access contract. The Maintenance Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of mechanics, bus washers, utility workers, and administrative staff. Maintenance facilities typically operate across three shifts to ensure that equipment maintenance is completed, and that testing and inspections of products, services, and processes are conducted to evaluate quality and performance. This ensures all specifications meet Department of Transportation (DOT), client, and company standards. This position is based in Capital Heights, supporting our WMATA Metro Access locations in Capital Heights, MD & Springfield, VA.

Travel requirement outside of immediate area:

Physical Requirements
  • Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions-100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations.
  • Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces
  • Push and pull objects up to 25 pounds, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level.
  • Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.
