Job summary

Carpenter Technology Corporation, a leader in premium specialty alloys, is seeking a Maintenance Intern to work hands-on with maintenance craftsmen. You will learn to machine and rebuild mechanical components, utilize precision measuring tools, and follow safety procedures in an industrial setting.

You’ll join a team on a path to support in-house rebuilds and maintenance projects, with 20 hours/week during school and up to 40 hours/week in the summer.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled at an accredited university/college/trade school pursuing at least a two-year technical degree in a machining discipline or equivalent and have completed the first year of core technical courses.
  • Required GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Ability to work minimum 20 hours starting Summer 2027, part-time during school and/or full-time up to 1,000 hours/year.
  • Ability to work in a production-oriented environment.

  • Safely performs assigned tasks competently and efficiently.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Onboarded as a maintenance trainee intern and collaborates with maintenance team and supervisors.
  • Learns to use precision measuring instruments, drawings, and diagrams.
  • Learns to machine and rebuild mechanical components.
  • Performs duties as needed in support of the plant.

Job Summary

This individual will be able to apply hands on technical application in maintenance related fields. Responsibilities will be working hands on with maintenance craftsmen to utilize their technical training in an industrial application. Projects include but not limited to machining mechanical components for in-house rebuilds to support maintenance, rebuilding components for the area maintenance departments, and repairing/rebuilding cylinders. Application of safety and maintenance procedures will be required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES FOR THE MAINTENANCE INTERN
  • Safely performs assigned tasks competently and efficiently.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  • The selected candidate will be onboarded as a maintenance trainee intern and will work with our current maintenance team and supervisors in an industrial maintenance discipline.
  • Will learn how to utilize precision measuring and testing instruments, drawings, and diagrams.
  • Will learn to machine and rebuild mechanical components.
  • Perform duties as needed in support of the plant.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be enrolled at an accredited university/college/trade school and be pursuing at least a two-year technical degree in a machining discipline or equivalent area and have completed the first year of core technical courses.
  • Required cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Ability to work minimum 20 hours beginning Summer 2027. Hours will be based on a part-time work schedule during the school semester and/or a full-time work schedule of 40 hours per week during the summer up to a maximum of 1,000 hours during any 12-month period.
  • Ability to work in a production-oriented environment.
PREFERRED FOR THE MAINTENANCE INTERN
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, well organized and the ability to prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • Willing to work in a fast paced, ever changing work environment.
