Job summary

The Marzetti Company in Luverne, AL is seeking a maintenance technician to support packaging and processing equipment, perform daily preflight checks, and keep HVAC and other plant systems in good working order.

Ideal candidates have 1–3 years in manufacturing maintenance, basic mechanical and math skills, and a HS diploma or GED. The role involves forklift operation, welding, and reading PID drawings, with potential overtime as needed.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years prior maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude, basic math skills and ability to use basic gauges and measuring tools are required.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

  • Completes daily paperwork and walk-through items and knows their importance.
  • Provides maintenance support required to sustain continuous operation of packaging and processing equipment.
  • Performs Daily Preflight of any Production Line.
  • Lubricates all machinery with the correct lubricants.
  • Changes drive belts, timing belts and other parts on all machinery.
  • Identify problems before they result in a hazard or downtime situation.
  • Changes filters and oils in plant equipment.
  • Maintains refrigeration compressor and pump oils.
  • Identifies and replaces bearings and seals as required.
  • Maintains company standards for cleanliness, inspect all HVAC units in our plant, safety and productivity in the plant area.
  • Ensures compliance to quality, food safety and HAACP support programs; assures conformity to all company, customer and government standards.
  • Restarts the Lantech stretch wrapper machine.
  • Welds with a stick welder on mild steel & have ability to use other types of welders with various metals.
  • Change out and clean & inspect all of the HVAC units in our plant.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical problems on lift trucks.
  • Must be able to read PID drawings.
  • Able to operate a forklift/ pallet jack/ boom lift and scissor lift
  • Must be able to PM/set-up and troubleshoot an egg pump
  • Able to put a freezer tunnel in defrost and back to normal operation
  • Performs other duties/responsibilities as assigned by Management

Working Conditions/Environment

Works in a manufacturing environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, read, sit, stand, walk, lift, reach, grasp and bend while moving about the facility. Must be able to move 75 pounds a distance of 25 feet or more. Must be able to stand for an 8-hour shift (sometimes longer) with regular breaks. May be required to work overtime and/or weekends as needed. The employee is regularly exposed to heat, fumes, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors, and moving parts/equipment. The noise level in the plant is loud. Earplugs, safety glasses, beardnets (if facial hair exists), hairnets, and steel-toed / slip-resistant shoes are required in the plant in accordance with company GMP and safety standards.
