Job summary

Community Unit School District 200 - Wheaton seeks a seasonal HVAC technician to maintain, diagnose and repair district building mechanical systems. The role supports the Facility Services team across multiple sites and requires hands-on troubleshooting.

POSITION DEFINITION: Authority/Responsibility – Seasonally maintain, diagnose and repair all aspects of Community Unit School District 200 building HVAC mechanical systems at designated locations as requested or required to maintain operating excellence for these sites.

Category: E1FS - Starting Pay Rate 25-26 sy: $32.89

Representative Activities

• Make basic calibrations of valves and controls for all HVAC equipment as well as the ability to operate building automation systems.
• Perform preventative maintenance on all mechanical equipment. Ability to learn new methods and systems.
• Assist remodeling projects that include basic carpentry, masonry, plumbing, painting, installing vinyl cove base and electrical projects under the management of the Facility Services Management Team.
• Ability to locate mechanical system main shut offs, gas, electric, water, sprinkler system.
• Duties as assigned. Work schedule will vary according to season and specific position assignment.

Knowledge and Physical Requirements

1. Must be able to climb ladders and scaffold as well as climb and place scaffold systems on roofs.
2. Must be able to bend and flex to inspect tunnels, cabinetry, boilers, excavations, cavities above ceilings, and other facility features.
3. Must have sufficient physical strength to handle heavy materials. Lifting to 100 pounds is expected occasionally lifting of between 50 and 75 pounds occurring frequently without assistance.
4. Must be able to properly use all safety equipment, including guards, harnesses and protective clothing as required depending on the scope of the work required.
5. Must be able to tolerate noise, smoke, fumes and heat may as they might happen at a typical job site.
6. Ability to tolerate weather extremes of heat in summer, cold in winter, rain, and dusty conditions as is typical of the Midwest.
7. Ability to operate mechanized equipment 8 hours per day without other assignment.
8. Must be able to read blue prints, manuals and other technical information as it relates to job needs.
9. Ability to follow verbal instructions to complete projects in a timely fashion.
