Job summary

The Gill Corporation-Maryland is seeking a Maintenance Helper to support production on the 3rd shift in Edgewood, MD. The role focuses on assisting with maintenance, basic servicing of manufacturing machinery, and PM tasks.

Compensation ranges from $22.00 to $25.00 per hour, with a $3 shift differential for the 10:00 PM–6:30 AM schedule. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, basic hand/ power tool skills, and the ability to read and follow procedures in English.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior technicians with maintenance, cleaning and basic servicing of machinery, ovens, and equipment.
• Perform routine PM tasks: change filters, check fluid levels, monitor climate control.
• Make minor repairs such as drywall patching, carpentry, painting, lighting and plumbing adjustments.
• Keep production areas clean and perform groundskeeping duties.
• Move and rearrange furniture and equipment as needed.
• Procure and deliver maintenance parts for the team.
• Log completed maintenance activities in the CMMS.
• Adhere to all safety rules and report unsafe conditions.

Compensation for this role:$22.00/hr - $25.00/hr – commensurate with experience.

Schedule: 3rd shift – Sunday through Thursday, 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM ($3.00/hr shift differential)

Summary:

The Maintenance Helper works under the general supervision of our Maintenance Supervisor and/or senior technicians to support the production floor, equipment, and facilities. This role requires a strong work ethic, a disciplined approach to safety, and a foundational understanding of hand tools, mechanics, and facilities maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

• Assists senior technicians with the maintenance, cleaning, and basic servicing of manufacturing machinery, ovens, and equipment.
• Conducts routine PM tasks, including changing air and fluid filters on industrial equipment, checking fluid levels, and monitoring facility climate control systems.
• Performs basic repairs such as minor drywall patching, basic carpentry, painting, light bulb replacement, and simple plumbing adjustments.
• Cleans production areas and performs general groundskeeping duties for surrounding areas.
• Moves and rearranges furniture and equipment as needed.
• Acquires and delivers parts for maintenance and production.
• Works in a safe manner following all departmental and plant safety rules. Reports any unsafe work conditions to the Safety Manager, supervisor, or management.
• Accurately logs completed maintenance activities and equipment checks in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Required:

• High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or equivalent vocational training required.
• Strong familiarity with standard hand and power tools, and a basic understanding of mechanical or electrical systems.
• Must have English reading, writing, and verbal communication skills sufficient to read, write, understand, and communicate the company operating procedures and policies.

Physical Demands:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; stand; walk; sit; stoop; bend; balance; kneel; climb; crouch; or crawl; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.
• The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally team lift or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
