Job summary

The Gill Corporation in Edgewood, MD is seeking a Maintenance Helper to support the production floor, equipment, and facilities. The role requires a strong work ethic, safety discipline, and a foundational understanding of hand tools, mechanics, and maintenance.

You will assist senior technicians with servicing machinery, perform routine PM tasks, and help with basic repairs and groundskeeping. This position operates on the 3rd shift (10:00 PM–6:30 AM) with a wage of $22–$25 per hour and a $3/hr

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent vocational training.
• Familiar with standard hand and power tools; basic mechanical or electrical systems.
• English reading, writing and verbal skills to follow procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior technicians with maintenance, cleaning and basic servicing of manufacturing machinery and equipment.
• Perform routine PM tasks: replace filters, check fluid levels, and monitor climate control.
• Make minor repairs such as drywall, carpentry, painting, lighting and plumbing adjustments.
• Clean production areas and perform general groundskeeping duties.
• Move and rearrange furniture and equipment as needed.
• Acquire and deliver parts for maintenance and production.
• Follow safety rules and report unsafe conditions.
• Log completed maintenance activities in CMMS.
• Other duties as assigned.

Compensation for this role: $22.00/hr - $25.00/hr – commensurate with experience.

Schedule: 3rd shift – Sunday through Thursday, 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM ($3.00/hr shift differential)

Summary

The Maintenance Helper works under the general supervision of our Maintenance Supervisor and/or senior technicians to support the production floor, equipment, and facilities. This role requires a strong work ethic, a disciplined approach to safety, and a foundational understanding of hand tools, mechanics, and facilities maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assists senior technicians with the maintenance, cleaning, and basic servicing of manufacturing machinery, ovens, and equipment.
• Conducts routine PM tasks, including changing air and fluid filters on industrial equipment, checking fluid levels, and monitoring facility climate control systems.
• Performs basic repairs such as minor drywall patching, basic carpentry, painting, light bulb replacement, and simple plumbing adjustments.
• Cleans production areas and performs general groundskeeping duties for surrounding areas.
• Moves and rearranges furniture and equipment as needed.
• Acquires and delivers parts for maintenance and production.
• Works in a safe manner following all departmental and plant safety rules. Reports any unsafe work conditions to the Safety Manager, supervisor, or management.
• Accurately logs completed maintenance activities and equipment checks in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Required

• High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or equivalent vocational training required.
• Strong familiarity with standard hand and power tools, and a basic understanding of mechanical or electrical systems.
• Must have English reading, writing, and verbal communication skills sufficient to read, write, understand, and communicate the company operating procedures and policies.

Physical Demands
