The State of Indiana is seeking a Maintenance Foreman at Madison Correctional Facility in Madison, Indiana. You will join a full‑service maintenance team managing plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry and grounds work, with a Monday–Friday schedule and occasional supervision of incarcerated individuals.

About Madison Correctional Facility

Madison Correctional Facility is a minimum‑security facility located in Madison, Indiana, housing more than 900 incarcerated adult females. Set near the Ohio River and adjacent to Clifty Falls State Park, the facility provides both on‑grounds and off‑grounds work opportunities. It includes a 72‑bed work‑release program that supports re‑entry preparation. Incarcerated individuals participate in programming, job assignments, and educational opportunities tailored to rehabilitation. Staff promote a supportive environment where individuals can build practical skills and confidence. Programs emphasize treatment, personal improvement, and readiness for reintegration. Role Overview

As a Maintenance Foreman you will be responsible for the repair and preventive maintenance needs of the facility. We are a full-service maintenance team that handles a wide variety of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and grounds issues. You will be working Monday through Friday, 7.5 hours a day. In addition, you will be supervising Incarcerated Individuals when needed. We provide excellent customer service and utilize best security/safety practices. There are advancement opportunities for those who want to move into supervisory positions.


Salary

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.


A Day In The Life

The essential functions of this role are as follows:



  • Solicit cost estimates or cost proposals.

  • Estimate costs and work hours for maintenance projects.

  • Oversee and participates in preventive maintenance and repairs of facilities

  • Maintain accountability of materials, tools, equipment, and vehicles.

  • Ensure compliance, of self and assigned personnel, with all appropriate protective and safety requirements

  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.

  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

  • Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position.

What You’ll Need For Success

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:



  • Broad knowledge of electrical systems, carpentry, plumbing and painting trades.

  • Ability to plan, schedule and supervise job sites.

  • Ability to fill in for other foreman to ensure the operation of the department.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and other remediation plans and documents.

  • Thorough knowledge of standard practices, processes, materials, procedures, and the ability to use tools and equipment of the various trades, such as carpentry, plumbing and electrical.

  • Thorough knowledge of the OSHA standards, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), occupational hazards and safety precautions required of the various trade areas.

  • Ability to plan and estimate project proposals in terms of equipment, man hours and costs.

  • Ability to endure exposure to inclement weather.

  • Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.

  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.

  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.


This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
