Job summary

The State of Indiana is hiring a Maintenance Foreman at Rockville Correctional Facility to lead repairs and preventive maintenance across plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and grounds. Expect a Monday–Friday schedule of 7.5 hours per day with supervision of incarcerated individuals and a focus on safety and security best practices.

Qualifications

  • Broad knowledge of electrical systems, carpentry, plumbing and painting trades.
  • Ability to plan, schedule and supervise job sites.
  • Ability to fill in for other foreman to ensure operation.
  • Ability to read blueprints and remediation plans.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and MSDS safety procedures.
  • Ability to estimate project proposals in terms of equipment, hours and costs.
  • Ability to endure exposure to inclement weather.
  • Ability to delegate work, provide direction and coach employees.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License.
  • A Degree Is Not Required.

About Rockville Correctional Facility

Rockville Correctional Facility is a maximum‑security institution located in Rockville, Indiana, housing more than 1,200 incarcerated adult females. It also functions as the intake unit for all women entering the Indiana Department of Correction. The facility provides assessments to identify appropriate placement and programming for each individual. Educational and vocational opportunities include cosmetology, parenting support, and a long‑standing partnership with Televerde that offers pre‑and post‑release employment pathways. Role Overview

As a Maintenance Foreman at the Rockville Correctional Facility you will be responsible for the repair and preventive maintenance needs of the facility. We are a full-service maintenance team that handles a wide variety of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and grounds issues. You will be working Monday through Friday, 7.5 hours a day. In addition, you will be supervising Incarcerated Individuals when needed. We provide excellent customer service and utilize best security/safety practices. There are advancement opportunities for those who want to move into supervisory positions.

Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day In The Life

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Solicit cost estimates or cost proposals.
  • Estimate costs and work hours for maintenance projects.
  • Oversee and participates in preventive maintenance and repairs of facilities
  • Maintain accountability of materials, tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Ensure compliance, of self and assigned personnel, with all appropriate protective and safety requirements
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
  • Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position.

What You'll Need For Success

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

  • Broad knowledge of electrical systems, carpentry, plumbing and painting trades.
  • Ability to plan, schedule and supervise job sites.
  • Ability to fill in for other foreman to ensure the operation of the department.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and other remediation plans and documents.
  • Thorough knowledge of standard practices, processes, materials, procedures, and the ability to use tools and equipment of the various trades, such as carpentry, plumbing and electrical.
  • Thorough knowledge of the OSHA standards, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), occupational hazards and safety precautions required of the various trade areas.
  • Ability to plan and estimate project proposals in terms of equipment, man hours and costs.
  • Ability to endure exposure to inclement weather.
  • Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.

This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
