Job summary

Nexus Water Group in Austin, TX, is seeking a Maintenance Foreman to join the Texas Water Utilities division. The role focuses on maintaining and repairing water and wastewater lines and leading crew members in a field setting.

The position requires operating heavy equipment, handling irregular hours, and being on-call. You will travel within the service area as needed and report to the Maintenance Department.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of directly related experience in water and wastewater system maintenance and repair, including experience operating heavy equipment.
  • High school Diploma and a valid driver’s license are required.
  • Advanced knowledge of water and wastewater operations; basic MS Office skills; ability to read and comprehend technical information.

Responsibilities

  • Operate backhoe, mini excavator, haul equipment with trailer.
  • Repair water lines and sewer lines; install new lines, wet taps, sewer taps, hydrants, and valves.
  • Assist with meter changes and install new meters.
  • Work irregular hours and be on-call 24 hours a day.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate jobs; manage inventory and permits.
  • Acquire permits and assist with landscaping as needed.

Overview

The Nexus Water Group team has an opportunity for a Maintenance Foreman within Texas Water Utilities division. The Maintenance Foreman assist with facility maintenance, maintain and repair water and wastewater lines and to act in a lead capacity to crewmembers.

Work Location and Schedule

This position is located in Austin, TX area. After-hour and weekend on-call support may be required. Some travel may be required within service area. Must be available to work shift work; weekend scheduling may be required.

What You'll Do

The Maintenance Foreman will perform the following duties:

  • Operate backhoe, mini excavator, haul equipment with trailer
  • Responsible for water line and sewer repairs, new line installation, wet taps and sewer taps, fire hydrant repair, and valve repair.
  • Assist with meter change out; pulls meters and installs new meters.
  • Job requires irregular hours and being on-call 24 hours a day.
  • Planning and Scheduling jobs.
  • Inventory ordering, organizing and counting.
  • Acquires permits for jobs and landscaping.
What You'll Bring

Experience

  • Three to five years of directly related experience in water and wastewater system maintenance and repair, including experience operating heavy equipment.

Education and Certification

  • High school Diploma
  • Requires a valid driver's license

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced skills and technical knowledge of water and wastewater operations and maintenance attained by specialized courses and on-the-job training
  • Basic skills with Microsoft Suite of applications
  • Ability to read and comprehend written technical information and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.

  • Work requires lifting, moving and/or carrying fire hydrants, concrete meter boxes, other heavy items weighing over 25 pounds; driving trucks and operating a backhoe; duties also require walking, reaching, lifting, climbing, stooping, and digging. Equipment used includes backhoe, tools and equipment required to install and repair water and sewer lines.
Work Environment
  • Work is performed primarily outside and is subject to weather and environmental conditions.
  • Worker is subject to adverse weather and environmental conditions, including temperature extremes, humidity and precipitation; noise and vibration from heavy equipment; physical hazards from moving machinery, equipment with moving parts, traffic, hazardous chemicals, and bacteria in wastewater.
