Maintenance Engineer II (General Main. Mechanic)

This is a full-time Mechanical Engineer II position responsible for general maintenance and repairs across hospital buildings. The role requires knowledge of building systems and trades, including plumbing, HVAC, medical gases, electrical, fire alarm systems, nurse call, TV systems, and more. The mechanic will utilize the work order system to manage maintenance tasks at Northwest Medical Center.

Work hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, with occasional flexibility for projects, emergencies, and on-call duties.

Job Summary

The Maintenance Engineer II ensures the functionality, safety, and compliance of healthcare facility systems and equipment through advanced maintenance, repairs, and installations. This role demands troubleshooting expertise in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and hospital-specific equipment. The engineer responds to urgent issues and may supervise entry-level engineers to support operational efficiency.

Essential Functions
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, and hospital-specific equipment.
  • Respond promptly to work requests and trouble calls, maintaining professionalism and safety standards.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and hospital standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, Joint Commission).
  • Address urgent repairs to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Perform regular inspections and maintain hospital building conditions.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, and equipment performance.
  • Assist with budget management, tracking, and ordering supplies and parts.
  • Maintain detailed logs for management oversight.
  • Address critical maintenance issues swiftly to ensure hospital operations and patient care are unaffected.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and adhere to policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • Associate Degree or formal training in facility maintenance, mechanical systems, or related field preferred.
  • 2-4 years of experience in facilities maintenance, engineering, or related roles required.
  • 3-5 years of hospital or healthcare setting experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gases).
  • Proficient troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with hospital staff, vendors, and contractors.
  • Ability to operate high-pressure boilers, emergency generators, and fire alarm panels during emergencies.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid Driver License (DL) in state.
  • Licensed Steam Boiler and Refrigeration within six months of employment.
  • Licensed Maintenance Electrician, Certified HVAC Technician, or Licensed Plumber as required.
  • CPI - Nonviolent Crisis Prevention & Intervention Training preferred.
State-Specific Requirements
  • Georgia: CPI certification required.
