Job description

The Electrician performs basic technical tasks including maintaining tools and equipment, managing lighting, inspecting and repairing electrical devices, and maintaining electrical circuits. The electrician participates in the department's emergency maintenance rotation and may be called upon to assist with emergency maintenance needs outside of normal working hours, in accordance with departmental procedures.

Responsibilities

• Maintain tools and equipment: inspect ministry‑issued tools and equipment, perform repairs, or notify appropriate parties for replacements.
• Manage lighting: inspect and diagnose luminaire issues in interior and exterior systems, and replace or repair any failed components.
• Repair electrical devices: handle requests regarding faulty receptacles, switches, plugs, connectors, etc., and replace or repair failed components.
• Maintain electrical circuits: install residential wiring and flexible conduits, including simple conduit bending work; inspect and maintain wiring and conduits as needed.
• Participate in emergency maintenance rotation as required.

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
• Vocational or trade degree in Electrical Trades (preferred).

Experience

• Minimum 1+ year(s) in electrical trade (required).
• Preferred 2+ year(s) in electrical trade.

Physical Requirements and Skills

• Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
• Electrical testing and circuit experience.
• Use of elevated work platforms.
• Capacity to lift, bend, stretch, push, or pull as needed.
• Platform lifts and power tool operation.
• State driver's license.
• Knowledge of trade products.
