Under the supervision of the Facilities Director, the Part Time Custodian ensures that all areas are kept clean and orderly, including inside and outside the main building. Responsibilities may include small maintenance repairs, meeting setup, supply ordering, and other duties as assigned.
This role operates in accordance with the mission, goals, and policies established by the YMCA's administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors.
Job Schedule: 15-20 hours per week. Saturday shifts: 7 a.m. - 1 p.m., 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., or noon - 6 p.m. Sunday shifts: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., 2 p.m. - 7 p.m., or 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Model relationship-building skills in all interactions with participants, parents, staff, and leadership.
- Maintain regular, clear, and concise communication within your area of responsibility.
- Ensure a safe, attractive, and clean environment by completing daily duties and maintaining the upkeep of assigned areas and equipment.
- Perform cleaning tasks such as mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, and seasonal outdoor work like lawn care and snow removal.
- Operate related equipment safely and effectively.
- Assist with maintenance tasks and report repairs as needed.
- Secure the YMCA building and property during shifts, reporting incidents and hazards.
- Replenish supplies like soap and paper towels.
- Set up furniture for events as required.
- Be available to work nights and weekends to support staffing needs.
- Stock supplies to maintain facility readiness.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Six months or more of related experience preferred.
- Minimum age of 16 years old.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, manuals, and documents.
- Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and chemicals, with an emphasis on safety.
- Effective communication skills with diverse groups.
- Ability to work independently, plan, and organize tasks.
- Must obtain YMCA certifications in First Aid and Emergency Oxygen within 30 days of hire.
- Multilingual skills are a plus but not required.
