POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Associate Executive Director at the Taylor Family YMCA and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, the Healthy Living Director plans, promotes, implements, and manages a variety of wellness activities. As a member of the branch wellness team, they will work to strengthen relationships among members through wellness activities, coaching and creative programs that align with the YMCA of the Triangle long range plan.
The Healthy Living Director will be responsible for managing such programs in accordance with established policies and expectations of the YMCA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for promoting and delivering high-quality wellness programs serving members and program participants with an intentional focus on overall health, goal attainment, relationships and engagement.
- Collaborates toward developing better systems and processes to ensure deeper connectedness among members and create an environment that supports overall health and well-being.
- Manages all aspects of the wellness center including staffing, maintaining equipment, enforcing rules and policies and regularly evaluating effectiveness.
- Responsible for direct oversight of gym spaces and Adult Sports programs including basketball, pickleball, volleyball, and racquetball.
- Maintains a strong presence, being visible and available to serve the membership base including some early mornings, evenings and weekends; committed to building positive, genuine relationships with members and staff.
- Responsible for recruiting, hiring, onboarding, leading and developing staff through regular training, evaluating and delivering frequent feedback.
- Responsible for strong leadership and accountability to staff with direct supervision of the Group Fitness Director and Healthy Living Membership Engagement Specialist while also providing necessary resources to successfully manage the group fitness program.
- Develops and implements innovative programming to address identified needs in the Taylor Family Y and community to enhance current offerings; collects and reviews data to determine impact and sustainability.
- Serves as part of the overall membership team focusing on member engagement through healthy living including but not limited to group fitness classes, personal and small group training, mental health initiatives, and medical membership programming ensuring consistency with the YMCA mission.
- Collaborates with other departments to strengthen membership engagement through cross promotion and coordinated programming and is an active member of the branch’s Membership Engagement Team.
- Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility to both members and staff.
- Responsible for implementing the annual budget according to guidelines.
- Facilitates high quality training opportunities for instructors and trainers.
- Participates in Association Wellness and Engagement initiatives including IQ teams and charts of work.
- Actively participates in the Annual Campaign. This includes but is not limited to recruiting and engaging volunteer fundraisers. Actively telling the story and mission of the YMCA in the branch and the community. Utilizing relationships to raise funds that help run YMCA programs for community outreach.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a health/exercise field preferred, and 3-5 years of wellness experience.
- Minimum of one year as a group exercise instructor and/or personal trainer required.
- Must have a high level of initiative, be a self-starter and have the ability to development relationships with members
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Demonstrated experience in community relations, customer service and leadership of a large group of people.
- Must possess or be willing to obtain CPR and Oxygen certifications within the first 30 days of employment.
- Must hold a current nationally accredited group fitness certification and/or personal training certification.
- Ability to attract, retain, lead and motivate quality staff and volunteer leadership.
- Must possess strong communication and computer literacy skills
- Must have commitment to the mission of the YMCA and uphold its values and ethics.
- Multi-lingual desired but not required.
