The Child Center of NY is seeking a Maintenance & Custodian to perform custodial duties and light maintenance across sites in New York City. The role ensures buildings are clean, safe, and sanitary, supporting a healthy environment for children and families served by the center.

Typical responsibilities include cleaning offices, restrooms, floors, and common areas, with afternoon hours from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM. High school diploma or equivalent and ability to lift up to 20 pounds are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalency required.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and perform light custodial tasks.

Responsibilities

• Clean offices and recreational facilities.
• Mop tile and concrete floor areas; vacuum carpeted areas.
• Wash and disinfect washrooms, toilets, fixtures, and hand dryers.
• Clean mirrors and replenish toilet tissue and soap.
• Empty waste baskets; manage outside storage area.
• Clean entrances and exterior glass and hardware.
• Keep exterior area clear of snow and debris near exits.
• Perform minor maintenance repairs and report damages.
• Wash and buff floors with floor polisher.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The Maintenance & Custodian is responsible for performing custodial duties, minor maintenance and other miscellaneous duties in order to ensure that buildings and facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner.

Essential Functions

• Clean offices and recreational facilities.
• Mop tile and concrete floor area, Vacuum all carpeted area.
• Wash and disinfect all washroom floors, toilets, toilet seats, hand dryers and fixtures.
• Clean all mirrors, and replenish toilet tissue and soap as needed.
• Empty all waste baskets and garbage cans and place garbage in outside storage bin.
• Clean entrance and exit including glass, doors and hardware.
• Keep outside area near exit and entrance clear of snow, cans, paper, etc.
• Perform and/or report minor maintenance repairs.
• Report damages and acts of vandalism.
• Wash and buff floors with floor polisher.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Monday – Friday | 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM
