Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village is seeking a Maintenance Custodian in Blauvelt, NY. The role combines custodial duties with light maintenance and basic repairs to keep the facility clean, safe, and inviting for clients and staff.

The position requires at least 6 months of custodial experience, ability to operate floor care machines, and comfort using basic hand tools. Full benefits and a supportive team environment are provided.

Qualifications

Six months of custodial/maintenance experience in a professional facility.
Experience performing light maintenance and minor repairs with basic hand tools.
Familiarity with cleaning procedures, sanitation methods and floor care.
Knowledge of operating floor stripping and buffing machines for vinyl/hard surfaces.
Ability to follow safety protocols for chemical handling (SDS).
Willingness to perform outdoor upkeep (snow/ice removal).
Ability to work independently and communicate with staff and supervisors.

Responsibilities

Maintains a clean, safe environment across the facility including common areas and clinical spaces.
Performs floor care: sweeping, mopping, scrubbing; uses stripping and buffing machines.
Handles light maintenance and minor repairs (locks, bulbs, basic fixtures).
Disinfects high-touch surfaces and bathrooms daily per protocols.
Manages waste and ensures safe exterior access (snow/ice removal).
Operates cleaning equipment and hand tools; ensures proper maintenance.
Follows safety guidelines and uses PPE; responds to maintenance emergencies.
