Olympic College is currently recruiting for a Maintenance Custodian who will be assigned to Poulsbo Campus. This position performs custodial duties and, under general supervision, a variety of routine maintenance work in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, or related work.
Essential Functions
Perform Minor Maintenance Tasks
- Removes, installs, cleans, and maintains product dispensing equipment such as soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, and other dispensers as assigned.
- Changes batteries, tests for proper operation, and adjusts dispensing quantities.
- Cleans and maintains plumbing fixtures; changes batteries in automated faucets, urinals, and toilets; removes and cleans aerators/screens, installs automatic flush valves; tests fixtures and adjusts for proper operation.
- Performs minor wall repairs to fix damage caused by the removal of dispensing equipment or by normal wear and tear. Prepares surfaces for minor touch-up painting and renewal of caulking.
- Performs a limited scope of interior painting of small offices/spaces. May be assigned to a crew for cleaning and painting on larger projects.
- Performs other minor maintenance tasks as assigned
Clean and Sanitize Classrooms
Cleans whiteboards, dusts and wipes furniture, dusts and wipes horizontal surfaces, sweeps, mops, and vacuums floors to ensure they are free of dirt, debris, or foreign material. Washes interior or exterior glass, cleans doors and handrails, empties wastebaskets, and recycling containers. Sanitizes high-touch areas and restocks PPE. Transports trash to the compactor; operates compactor. Uses ladders and associated appropriate equipment to clean windows, overhead lighting, air diffusers, exposed pipe, ventilation, and other elevated building attributes. Reorganizes classrooms to the standard layout provided by the Custodial Services Supervisor.
Clean and Sanitize Bathrooms
- Selects and uses appropriate PPE, washes and cleans mirrors to a streak-free finish, wipes down and cleans all horizontal counter surfaces.
- Wipes down and cleans sinks to include faucets and soap dispensers.
- Uses the appropriate cleaning method to ensure all toilets and urinals are cleaned and free of stains; sweeps and mops floors to ensure they are free of dirt, debris, and foreign material.
- Restocks paper and feminine hygiene products, sanitizes all high-touch areas.
- Uses ladders and associated appropriate equipment to clean windows, overhead lighting, air diffusers, exposed pipes, ventilation, and other elevated building attributes.
- Transports trash to the compactor; operates the compactor.
Clean and Sanitize Lobbies, Halls, and Common Areas
- Uses appropriate PPE, sweeps, mops, and vacuums floors to ensure they are free of dirt, debris, or foreign material.
- Wipes down and cleans all horizontal surfaces and sanitizes high-touch areas.
- Restocks PPE/Sanitation stands/dispensers.
- Uses ladders and associated appropriate equipment to clean windows, overhead lighting and air diffusers, exposed pipe, ventilation, and other elevated building attributes.
- Transports trash to the compactor; operates the compactor.
Carpet & Floor Care
- Extracts carpets and furnishings as needed.
- Applies protectant to extracted carpets and upholstery.
- Performs deep cleaning methods to strip and refinish floors; uses and maintains hard floor maintenance equipment.
Event Set‑Up and Furniture Moves
- Moves furniture and equipment, arranges tables and chairs for classrooms, conferences, and events.
- Performs set‑up and breakdown of events, including tables, chairs, and related items.
- Be on standby during events to handle spills and remove trash.
Grounds and Seasonal Duties
- Mowing lawns
- Blowing leaves, cleaning up after wind storms
- Pruning
- Using hand‑operated tools or small power equipment to remove snow or ice and apply ice melt to sidewalks.
- Sweep sidewalks, stairs, and pressure wash walkways and other surfaces as assigned.
- Adhere to standards set forth by Grounds management
Use Custodial Work Management/Inventory System and other duties as assigned
- Plan and perform projects, request supplies, perform work requests, and request equipment repairs.
- Account for equipment and locations for equipment, access online SDS sheets for authorized chemicals and may perform quality assurance assignments and other duties within the system as needed.
- Maintains inventory, moves, and stocks materials and supplies.
- Uses the Custodial Maintenance System and appropriate equipment for material handling.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must possess the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, including the ability to lift, push, pull, and carry loads weighing up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to walk, sit, and stand for periods of up to eight (8) hours per shift as required to perform the essential functions of the position.
- One year of experience as a Maintenance Custodian or in an equivalent position.
- Valid Driver’s license
Work Setting, including Hazards
- This role involves a mix of indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions. You will operate rotating machinery, work at heights, and navigate potential electrical and energy hazards.

Terms of Employment
We are unable to sponsor visas for this position. Only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered. This is a full-time classified position scheduled to work 40 hours a week, with a salary range of $41,820 - $55,596* annually. All classified positions will start their salary at Step A. After completing the six-month probation, your salary will increase by 2 steps. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA) Union.
