The Department of Military Affairs is seeking a Maintenance & Custodial Technician in Norfolk to assist Regional Operational Maintenance Managers with maintenance, repair, and minor construction of buildings and grounds within the ROMM region. The role serves as the primary preventive maintenance Trades Technician for the Norfolk Readiness Center.

Minimum qualifications include trade experience in Carpentry, HVAC, Plumbing, or Electrical, blueprint reading, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Must have documented trade experience in Carpentry, HVAC, Plumbing or Electrical.
  • Must be able to read drawings/blueprints.
  • A valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record is required.
  • Essential physical and mental capabilities include memory, attention to detail, following directions, reading, writing, and mathematical reasoning.
  • Ability to use ladders/lifts and custodial/mowing equipment; ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

Job Duties

Purpose of Position:
To assist the Regional Operational Maintenance Managers (ROMMs) in the maintenance, repair, and minor construction of all associated buildings and grounds within the assigned ROMM’s region.
This position provides the Virginia Army National Guard with safe, high quality, cost effective and timely building and grounds maintenance. This position will serve as the primary preventative maintenance Trades Technician for the Norfolk Readiness Center.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have documented trade experience in at least one of the following: Carpentry, HVAC, Plumbing or Electrical;
  • Must be able to read drawings/blueprints;
  • A valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record is required;
  • Essential physical and mental capabilities in the following: Interpersonal skills, memory, attention to detail, follow directions, comprehension, calculating, reading, writing, speaking, evaluating, mathematics, organizing and innovation;
  • Ability to use various ladders/lifts;
  • Ability to use various custodial and mowing equipment;
  • This position requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
Additional Considerations

Virginia Herbicide/Pesticide Certification preferred.
