Job summary

The Virginia Department of Veterans Services is seeking a Cemetery Caretaker (Trades Technician IV) to support state veterans at Suffolk Cemetery. You will maintain grounds, assist with grave markers, and operate related tools and equipment.

Responsibilities include applying maintenance procedures, reading section maps and grave plots, and ensuring safety and reliability of cemetery facilities. Applicants should be capable of physical work and collaborating with the DVS HR team.

Qualifications

• Must be familiar with cemetery grounds maintenance procedures and practices.
• Ability to lift/maneuver a 220-pound grave marker with help from another person.
• Knowledge of section maps, pins and gravesite numbering for layouts.

Job Duties

Serve Virginia's veterans and their family members by ensuring they receive the benefits, support, quality care, and recognition they have earned through service and sacrifice.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be familiar with all cemetery grounds maintenance procedures and practices; to include all operations including section maps, pins and gravesite numbering system for laying out each site. Must be aware of preventative maintenance in relationship to the cemeteries light and heavy equipment including the operation of power hand tools, plastering, plumbing, and roof repairs and carpentry. Ability to lift/maneuver a 220-pound grave marker with the help of one additional person.
