Job description

This position participates in wastewater, water, or solid waste construction, maintenance, and repair activities, transportation, and disposal operations.

1. Supervision and Coordination: Coordinates, assigns, and reviews work; establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors work progress; inspects completed work; answers questions; provides advice and direction as needed.
2. Leadership and Guidance: Provides technical guidance as the leader of designated crew employees.
3. Safety Compliance: Communicates safety rules and procedures; monitors work for compliance; ensures crew members are properly outfitted with safety gear.
4. Housekeeping: Assigns and assists with cleaning duties, including trash removal, carpet vacuuming, and floor mopping.
5. Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Performs skilled work on small equipment; safely operates motorized equipment for sewer, drainage, and public property maintenance or construction; inspects, cleans, and performs routine preventive maintenance.
6. Site Inspection and Compliance: Inspects job sites for health, safety, and transportation regulation compliance; ensures safe work methods; reports issues and recommends solutions.
7. Emergency Repairs and Coordination: Directs crews for emergency repairs; coordinates with utilities, contractors, inspectors, and other stakeholders.
8. Site Assessment: Examines sites and structures to determine remedial actions; reports and notifies relevant personnel.
9. Emergency Services: Performs emergency services on roads or sewer facilities; manages barricades and warning signs.
10. Training and Safety Instruction: Assists in training employees; instructs operators on safety procedures.
11. Additional Duties: Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED, with two years of experience in construction maintenance related to building, water/sewer, solid waste, streets, or grounds; supervisory experience preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

Additional Requirements: Background check, drug screening, medical screening, and verification of education and licenses prior to employment.

Supervisory Controls: Work is assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor with detailed instructions; work is spot-checked for accuracy and adherence to guidelines.

Guidelines: Department rules, city code, and work standards provide clear and specific guidelines.

Work Complexity and Scope: Maintenance duties are directly related; weather conditions add complexity; the purpose is to support department operations through grounds and facilities maintenance.

Contacts and Purpose: Contacts include co-workers, city employees, customers, and the public, mainly to exchange information, provide services, and resolve problems.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: Work involves standing, walking, bending, lifting, and outdoor work in various weather conditions, often requiring protective gear.
