Job summary

The Town of Easton, Public Works Department, is hiring a Maintenance Crew Member. This full-time, non-exempt position reports to the Maintenance Supervisors and performs outdoor labor across municipal operations, including parks, roads, and facilities.

Responsibilities include mowing, tree care, weed control, snow removal, traffic control, and vehicle maintenance. CDL-A required within six months; pesticide applicator and traffic control certs are also required.

Qualifications

• Must hold CDL Class A or obtain within six months.
• Maryland pesticide applicator certificate required.
• Traffic control certification required.

Responsibilities

• Operate riding mowers for grass cutting.
• Perform tree care tasks including planting, trimming, watering, and removal.
• Weed management and leaf collection; operate leaf vacuums.
• Support street, infrastructure, and concrete repairs.
• Conduct snow removal on town roadways and properties.
• Maintain traffic control during work zones; operate bucket trucks for elevated tasks.
• Maintain town vehicles and equipment; perform minor repairs and painting.
• Provide support to other municipal crews and respond to weather-related emergencies.

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION : Maintenance Crew Member

REPORTS TO : Maintenance Supervisor(s)

POSITION OVERVIEW : This is a full-time, non-exempt role. The Maintenance Crew Member performs a variety of outdoor physical labor tasks across municipal operations, reporting directly to Maintenance Supervisor(s).

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate riding mowers and related lawn maintenance equipment for grass cutting operations.
• Carry out tree care tasks, including planting, trimming, watering, and removal.
• Perform weed management; obtain and maintain a Maryland pesticide applicator certificate.
• Collect leaves using specialized vacuum equipment.
• Street & Infrastructure Maintenance
• Assist with road, storm drain, and concrete repairs.
• Conduct snow removal operations on town roadways and public properties.
• Obtain traffic control certification to safely manage work zones.
• Operate bucket trucks for elevated operations, including utility pole painting.
• Park Facilities & Equipment Upkeep
• Collect waste and maintain cleanliness across town parks.
• Perform minor mechanical repairs, basic carpentry, and painting tasks.
• General Operations & Support
• Operate diverse equipment assigned to the Public Works Maintenance Division.
• Provide support to other municipal crews and complete additional tasks assigned by supervisors.
• Clean, grease, service, and maintain town vehicles and machinery.
• Maintain strict punctuality and attendance standards
• Must be available for assignment during weather-related emergencies.

QUALIFICATIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Licensing & Certifications : Must hold or successfully acquire a CDL Class A License within six months of employment; required to secure a Maryland pesticide applicator certificate and traffic control certification.

Equipment Operation : Proficient in operating motor vehicles, riding mowers, chainsaws, leaf vacuums, hand tools, and town bucket trucks.

Physical Capabilities : Ability to perform strenuous outdoor physical labor across all weather conditions. Must be comfortable working at, above, or below grade, including from ladders. Requires long periods of standing, walking, bending, twisting, squatting, and kneeling.
