Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Maintenance Coordinator works in collaboration with the Facilities Director to ensure that the two school buildings and grounds are maintained in a clean, orderly, and safe condition at all times. The Maintenance Coordinator will have a visible presence in the life of both school buildings including regular interactions with faculty, staff, students, and their families. The Maintenance Coordinator will be responsive to emerging maintenance needs on the entire school campus.


Physical Demands and Environmental Factors:

· Continual standing, walking and moving heavy objects. Occasional lifting and carrying of over 50lbs.

· Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing (ladder).

· Operation of hand and power tools/equipment.

· Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions.

Minimum Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent and three years’ experience in facility maintenance, electrical or plumbing, or equivalent OR

· High school diploma or equivalent, and an advanced specialized education in building, maintenance, electrical or plumbing, and one year of full-time experience in building maintenance, electrical or plumbing.

· Knowledge of hand and power tools, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, grounds masonry, etc.

· Strong customer service mindset and ability to interact with others in a courteous manner.

· Comfort and respect with working around children.

· Must take pride in maintaining clean, neat, operational facilities.

· Ability to read, write, and interpret written correspondence.

· Knowledge and experience in utilizing Word, email software, and internet research.

· Ability to pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Past experience working in an educational environment.
  • Training or certification in facilities maintenance preferred.
  • Knowledge of school facility management software.
Essential Functions and percent of time:

60% – Facility Maintenance Coordination

· Apply basic maintenance knowledge in the performance of daily upkeep of buildings and grounds.

· Repairs, installs, and maintains electrical equipment and apparatus, including but not limited to, light fixtures, ballast, bulbs, and tubes. Operates man lifts and aerial lifts. Repairs, installs and maintains all roofing systems and exterior building structures. Repairs, installs and maintains all flooring including but not limited to VCT , ceramic, carpet, sheet vinyl and cove base. Repairs, installs and maintains ceiling tiles and ceiling grid. Repairs, installs and maintains building plumbing systems and related equipment

· Perform daily cleaning and grounds maintenance tasks to ensure maintenance areas are clean, neat, and free of safety hazards.

· Assist with scheduled and urgent repair and maintenance projects in accordance with the established priority system based on safety, educational need, and on-going repair needs.

· Moves, relocates and installs furniture and office equipment including classroom and special occasion events and instruction. Installs and assembles modular office furniture systems and occasionally re-configures. Repairs and maintains furniture supplied within the building. Loads and unloads furniture and related materials. Operates vehicles in the transportation of moving materials, as necessary.

· Identify opportunities for the school to engage in more efficient, effective, and/or economical maintenance practices.

· Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.

20% – Purchasing and Budgeting

· Maintains an efficient and organized inventory of all parts and equipment needed on a regular basis.

· Purchase building materials, tools, and other supplies as requested and per budget.

· Work with Facility Manager to stay within budget while maintaining high facility operational standards

20% – Communication and Collaboration with Important Stakeholders

· Develop and maintain courteous working relationships with facilities vendors and contractors.

· Identify and report all safety issues to the Facilities Director immediately.

· Carry a two-way radio at all times and respond to calls/pages promptly.

· Support and promote the school’s environmental philosophy in day-to-day practices.

· Participate in meetings when requested by the Facilities Director or Superintendent

· Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and schedule recommended upgrades to ensure the proper operations of all system

· Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Director.

Length of contract is one year contingent upon funding.
