Job summary

Excel Care in Wilmington is seeking a reliable Maintenance Assistant to support daily operations in our skilled nursing facility. You will perform general maintenance to keep plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry in safe, working order, ensuring a clean and safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

The role is hands-on, physical, and requires lifting up to 50 lbs, teamwork, and weekend/on-call availability. Healthcare or long-term care experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Maintenance/skilled trade experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of building systems and tools.
• Detail-oriented with strong safety awareness.
• Flexible availability, including weekends/on-call.

Responsibilities

• Assist with general maintenance: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry.
• Complete repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment and building systems.
• Respond to work orders and maintenance requests from staff.
• Help maintain clean and safe common areas, resident rooms, and outdoor spaces.
• Support seasonal tasks like snow removal and landscaping.
• Monitor supplies and tools, and report any hazards or needed repairs.
• Help with room setups, furniture moves, and facility inspections.
• Always follow safety and infection control protocols.
